#12467, "what kind of intercooler?"

i'm planning on getting an hrc kit REALLY soon, but i was wondering about intercooler options. i know there are plenty of brand names out there, but what model do i get? because our cars are non-turbo stock, there is no intercooler that will just bolt-on, right? can i buy the intercooler that the brand sells for the 4g63? for example, let's say i wanted to get an apex-i intercooler. also, is the intercooler that hrc now manufactures much better than any other intercooler?

To make your life easier, you might just want to get on of the intercoolers that come with the HRC stage II kit (SMIC or FMIC). That way all of the piping will match up with the kit and you'll be done. If you have time and are adventurous, almost any IC can be made to fit. You just have to cut/weld the piping to fit. I still think that Apex makes the best FMIC. The end tanks have smooth transitions and everything looks well designed. You'd have to do custom piping to get one though (and its a little big to fit well).

I was wondering about that myself. How would one go about getting decent piping? Find an exhaust shop that has a mandrel?

My piping is from JC whitney. Its mandrel bent. I bought it off Jason_ESIT but I think new it costs about $100 for piping and couplings. I just cut and welded the pipes together. I got the couplings from RRE and my FMIC was $160 on e-bay. And it had no dents or scratches like some of the starions have because they are so old. When you get piping get either 2" or 2.5".
