Just reverse it!
Have the exhaust housing hooked up to the intake piping, versus the intake housing.
Your BOV will still open when vaccum is applied. I have not experienced any compressor surge except when only at 1psi or so...very rarely. BOV now doesnt leak when around 7-8psi, and instead of the psshhhhhhhhhh you hear....you actually get to hear a big fart sound! woop!

I really am thinking about trying it, but I keep thinking to myself that this shouldn't work in the way the theorist has in mind. I really think that they're all just enjoying a new sound that's actually comrpessor surge. (moreover, my BOV doesn't make a goose noise....just a whoosh sound)
Here is what the BOV looks like in its correct operation:
The bottom horizontal line within the BOV represents the valve that pushes up when excess boost is pushed back by the closing of the throttle plate and air being rushed back through the Intercooler piping. The ugly squiggly line is my rendition of a spring. You would notice that when the valve is pushed up upon the entry of compressed air, there's a horizontal channel available for the air to exit to the atmosphere once the valve is pushed far enough upwards and out of the way.

The proponent of this theory has proposed turning the BOV on its side so that the air will rush in and out (where I dont know?) and have a more efficient effect on boost with less leakage and a more dramatic sound. However, I would argue that since changing the orientation of the BOV does NOT allow for a clear path of air to exit out of the BOV upon a rush of air within the changed orientation of the BOV, a resulting compression surge would follow.
I wouldn't advise it. (just get a better BOV)

The missing factor for consideration here is the area of the valve and how boost pressure acts upon it. If the valve assembly is installed in a reverse fashion, the boost pressure that used to assist in the opening of the valve (when vacuum is suddenly applied) will now hold the valve closed. The valve will then not open adequately, if at all.

The problem bill is that the BOV you supply is not strong enough to prevent blow by when boost is applied while vaccum is still present. So what happens is transition from vaccum to boost the BOV will leak like crazy.
In addition, the valve will not hold boost over 5psi.
I agree that this is not an optimum solution, but if i return my current BOV and you send me a replacement, will you guarantee that it hold for your stage 2 boost claims (7-9psi)? I'll be glad to send you my BOV if so.

Just out of curiosity, how many people have this problem??? I don't really know if I do or not. My boost guage barely ever goes past 5 psi (Stage 2), but I am ashamed to admit that I have been running a stock exhaust system too (which untill now that's what I thought the problem was). When I am accelerating, I do hear the blow off valve letting air out before the boost gauge reads boost... does that mean its time for a new BOV?

...I have't noticed any leakage under boost, myself.
I would think the CFM's our setup is pushing would not leak any more boost than does a 3000gt (stock) setup since they're pushing enough boost to support over 300 horsepower with two turbos.

i'm sorry to say but the 3kgt's ARE leaking through the same BOV. They call it the "goose" (because it sounds like a goose - go figure lol). Just check the link i posted on my original post, there are a lot of people in 3kgt land that have this problem.
The solution is really to get a better BOV. I got the turboxs type h "rfl" on order.
Since i switched the order of my stock hrc bov, i now boost up to the 7psi with stock exhaust system. yes, there is very little compressor surge at less than 1psi, but anything over, it blows off just like normal (because the vaccum opens the BOV still).
If you do get compressor surge (again, you will know what it sounds like - like a stream of air being chopped up) it'll take you less than 1 minute to revert back to the leaky method.
Even if it was ok to leak up to 5psi, a BOV should not remain open while at idle!
