#10916, "Accel DFI (Who here has installed one?)"

Who here has installed the 015013 Accel DFI? I have been tracing my shit and thought my harness had been hacked on so rsx99boy gave me a spare one he had, but it seems to be the same as mine. It has 21 wires at the main harness, but in the manual for the 015013 ECU, it shows 37 dif wires.. huh?

How do you run the Bosch 02 sensor wires to the DFI harness? Also, I cant find the air temp signal wire on the dfi harness.

Do all these DFI's come w/ a knock sensor? My knock sensor doesnt read anything even under high boost. Does the MSD DIS-2 have a knock sensor and retard timing or the DFI?

Does anyone know if since the installation of the DFI, we don't need the factory 02 sensors? Are they still used for trim vales? I am having some new piping made and i dont want to weld in the 2 o2 probes if i dont have to.

Thanks,

Bill? How you got your RS running? Murix? Anyone? I tried to contact Accel, but their website hasnt allowed me to post a tech question since i have tried to access it for 2 months.... I have tried calling them but they just give me the run around, I think since they have my money they dont really care anymore, but maby i'm just having bad luck.

For an O2 sensor and an air temp sensor you have to run extra wires. The default harness does not come equipped for these so you will have to get an additional harness or wire it up yourself. I would give HRC a call directly and they should be able to sort you out. We have run these sensors on Armonds Avenger and they do work fine once wired up.

Murix,

Why do they come w/ out all the wires needed, thats kinda wierd... Do most people not hook up those sensors? I would think you would NEED an air temp, cause if its not hooked up, the way the circuit is setup, it will always read an extremely low temp(-4) and fxck up your trim tables for the base fuel map... same w/ the o2 sensor, are you using the bosch 02 sensor to run closed loop or always open loop?

It is my understanding that you will never get a knock sum from a 2g due to the logic used by the ECU. You have to tune by timing advance instead.

I may be wrong in your situation.

the wire harness for the 420A has less wires than a standard dfi ecu for something like a small block ford. we only have 4 injectors, it isn't pre-wired fo rnos, iat sensor, fan control, etc.......

Call HRC Tech support. they can get you the parts and instructions you will need for that

You have to buy that seperately and install it yourself into the harness

NO

How do you test it???

NO

Once again, the current DFI available does not control ignition timing on our cars.

>Does anyone know if since the

keep them. they aren't hurting anything, and it could prevent ignition timing retard from a faulty o2 sensor code. Not sure if that is possible, but it never hurts to be safe

Are they still used
>for trim vales?

Your factory o2 sensors when working properly are used to adjust the stock fuel curve. since you use the accel ecu for fuel, they shouldn't adjust anything.

<<<it isn't pre-wired for nos, iat sensor, fan control, etc.......>>>

Yeah, I noticed my fans arent controlled by the DFI either...

Soooo.... I need to tell Bill that I need to know how to hook up the fan control, 02 sensor, air temp, iat sensor(whats this? idle air temp?)... Is that all that I am probably missing? Is there anything else you had to do when you installed yours in the Avenger? I want to do it all at the same time so I dont have to worry about the wiring anymore, just tuning.

well, honestly, if you don't have like a cooler thermostat i wouldn't worry about controlling the fans. They operate pretty good withthe factory program, but if you are dead set on controling at what temp. they turn on, you will need ot get the fan control kit from HRC tech support. everythign in that kit is layed out pretty well to install (you have to have some wiring knowledge 'though). 02 sensor for the accell isn't really necessary in my opinion. after seeing how it works, I could have honestly done without it. it only adjust you air fuel ratio below 3K rpm at most....depending on how you set it. it is used to maintain idle mixture only. (of which I can do with a knob). Air temp is called IAT (intake air temp). that is also not really necessary. it only jdjust you fuel maps if the air is colder or warmer than optimal depending on how you tune it.......which can also be done with a knob emoji. I installed every control peripherial that I could on my dfi because I didn't want to miss anything, but really it's just overkill. most of that stuff isn't even necesary. Just makes tuning a little longer.

So when next spring rolls around and I throw in my 160* thermostat, I should order the kit from Hahn for the fan control. Cool. Umm, o2 sensor isnt a big thing then? Just tweaking the fuel maps is the best thing? I wonder how Bill have their stage V setup? I have bad luck getting him to resond to my emails, but i'm sure he's a pretty busy guy. It the IAT, I think i want to hook that up just for piece of mind, so I can display my intake air temp from time to time. Is there anything else you suggest I do other than the general wiring, IAT, and fan controls in spring? Thanks a lot for your help, its hard to find people with first hand knowledge of the installation of these DFI's.

BTW, they came out with a new DFI didnt they? With windows based software? Any scoop on that, can we use that windows based software to edit our ecu's?

Armond is right. I run mine without all the extra sensors. Get the power tuner and if you need to make a quick change to idle or due to weather just turn the knob emoji Works fine once you get your base maps dialed in. I think that is how Bill runs his anwyay and why he does not sell all the extra sensors. Not honestly needed, just extra stuff and cost.

Well, the only thing I would like to do is control my fans when I get a lower temp thermostat.. And if I had my air temp sensor working, I wouldnt have to make on the fly changes, right? Cause I am using Calmap, and its not too easy to edit.

Man, they are doing construction wotk in front of my house and they turned the power and telephone off this morning, I just woke up cause my alarm didt go off so I missed work... fxck.

LAST EDITED ON 19-Oct-01 AT 10:26 AM (PST)

You do not need to edit the calmap software with what we are talking about. That would be too much trouble. The power tuner is a little black box that has two knobs - one for idle and one for full throttle. It makes a change like an AFC would to your fuel maps that you set with the calmap software by +/- 50%. You can use these two knobs on the go to make quick changes when necessary without having to load up the fuel maps. It is how I have been doing it. The extra sensors do not hurt, we just want to make sure people realize they are not necessary either.

Oh, on your other note, just to upset people who rely on time, I do not actually use my alarm clock and have not in years :p I do not have a real schedule as long as I come to work and take care of business. I got to work at 11:30 this morning after a late night (in bed at 5am). That said, it is 7:20pm here now and time for me to go home thinking about it. It is hard being me emoji

cheers
