I've done it, but it's not as easy as toykilla thinks.
It's best to do it with the block out of the car. it's possible to leave it in and do it (so i've heard) but it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

I think Klipzracer did it a few days ago on his X. According to a reliable source (i won't say his name ), Dino's latter method can be done on cars with pretty new engines.

Hmm really you can take the pistons off by just taking off the oil pan??!! haha I"ve done that, when I installed the turbo.
You just unscrew the part of the connecting rod from the crank shaft or something? That sounds pretty easy, no honing and other stuff is needed?
BWahah if I can have stronger internals I will go boost crazy. I heard our rings aren't made to take boost so they'll give easily, piston and rod are pretty strong from what I've heard.

That's a common misconception. There's nothing wrong with the rings at all and the rods are fairly strong, it's the pistons that go almost every time. Our stock pistons are cast which makes them brittle. They can't withstand detonation at all due to the brittleness and they will crack. Typically, it's the outter edges that go, the ring lands, not the rings themselves. Rings are rings are rings, and they all smell just as sweet..

Hey pull the engine whenever you do internal work. It's super easy to hit your crank and put a nice nick in it. Not to mention you should ALWAYS at least hone your cylinders to get a nice cross-hatch so your new rings will seat. And yes NOS=burnt valves. Not all the time but when you're not careful. They are also hellified easier to get to (and cheaper) than pistons. Sometimes bent rods can come from NOS but not as often as valves or pistons that you can see through.

Intresting.. Drop the oil pan and pull out the old rods & pistons, then insert the new ones. huh... Almost makes me want to try it. How hard is it anyways to replace the internals (assumeing there in good condition) I want to get my internals upgraded but I always figures I'd have to take it to a shop and buy the whole upgrade kit (like howell sells). But if i'm able to just replace the rings, pistons, rods, gaskets, and bearings myself, then i just might do it sooner.. Any thought on this?

I don't recommend it.
The only way i'd do it is after i get the head off, check the bores with a micrometer and every single one of them comes back as 100% within stock spec and -zero- out of round, and even then i would be uncomfortable with it. I would still hone them, but with a stone/wire honing tool intead of a metal/stone/shaft on a high power drill like we used for mine.
Advantages: 1. Cheap and quick 2. Possible to do yourself 3. No engine pulling
Disadvantages: 1. Hard to hone 2. if it's not 100% in-spec, gotta pull it anyway 3. Can't check or replace main bearings 4. can't polish crank journals 5. can't balance anything 6. tons of dust and honing material getting in your bottom end 7. it's not a smart idea 8. it probably won't save you any money in the long run.
Do it right the first time, or forget about it.
