#107472, "WOT Boost Issues"

Let me give you a short run down. I boosted my car shortly after i got it. always had issues with WOT boost runs. it would "spit and sputter" immediately under wot, then after a few seconds if i was brave enough to keep into it, it would boost hard and strong. And occasionally after it boosted good it would spit and sputter again at higher rpms. got sick of it and sold my motor and turbo setup to my buddy. heres the kicker i have a 99 eclipse and he has a 95 talon. dropped the motor and everything into his car. motor boosts perfect. WHATS THE DEAL!? to make a long story short. i ended up getting my motor and setup back. heres what im running.

walbro 255, vortech 12:1 fmu, missing link, stock injectors/fuel rail, t3/t4 turbo, turbonetics 38mm external wg set at 10psi.

get everything back into my eclipse after a complete rebuild of the bottom end of the motor and still have boost iussues. i read on here that 7psi is pretty much the max for the stock fuel injectors and anything over you may run into lean conditions. is there any difference between the 95 talon injectors vs my 99 eclipse injectors? or is the problem that the fmu is mounted at the rear of my car vs. the front of the talon? ( fuel line differences)i would really appreciate it if someone could help me figure this out cause im not givin up! emoji

Without knowing any data figures on fuel pressures, WBO2 readings, EGTs, etc., a sputtering under boost can be attributed to running pig rich.

I am not going to lecture you on the dangers of running a turbocharger without any feedback gauges or datalogging capability but to give a proper diagnosis you need to know what is going on in the motor.

does anyone know if the fuel injectors are different between the talon and eclipse? im pretty sure their not. but would like reassurance. or about the length of the vaccum hose going to the fmu would cause any hesitation for fuel delivery???

No difference in the injectors. Difference in 95 to 96-99 years is fuel regulator position (95 is on fuel rail, other is by fuel tank), ECU (95 is OBD-I, others are OBD-II, as well as 95's don't need missing link/FCD where the others do). As far as I know those are the main differences you need to know. You already addressed the regulator issue, but I'm not sure if that affects the initial WOT condition (RIGHT after WOT, what RPM? Boosting? I know that t3/t4 doesn't spool until like 3500-4k) Just reading, I'd say it's a missing link issue. The high RPM is probably the high fuel pressure due to 10 psi and 12:1, not a good combo! As mentioned above, you really wanna stay under 7 with that system (otherwise even a walbro will piss out, and fuel lines will start cracking... been there done that!).

You're getting fuel cut. Your missing link is bad.

i think your right about the missing link cause yesterday i was drivin the car tryin to figure it out. and the vac gauge reaches 0 and when it hits like 1-2 psi of boost it starts to act up. is it common for missing links to be bad? im thinking about just goin with a fcd. is either of the two more reliable?
