Just wanted some opinions on this:
I was given a 14B.
The 14B needs to be rebuilt. I have read several things, and all tend to agree that the MHI 14B is component balanced.
There are several write ups on how to rebuild, and the kit is 60 dollars. Doesnt require any special tools and anyone with basic knowledge could do it.
Setup will be: 14B, Supra SMIC, Accel 270cc injectors, and a SFMU among other things. Basic, safe, 5psi setup.

I've helped rebuild a 16G before. It's not as scary as you might think. Meticulously organize your workspace as you go. Maybe start with the turbo in the middle and start lining up compressor bits to the left and turbine bits to the right. Keep things in order.
Keep things clean too. It's been a while, but I recall simply replacing old bits with new ones during reassembly. One snag we rant into (which was more scare than anything else), we used a sharpie marker to mark things as we took them apart (orientation, clocking, et al). But when we used brake cleaner to clean things before reassembly... DOH!
Free turbo. $60 rebuild kit. A couple hours of your time. Quality.
I'm growing less and less inclined to install any turbo larger than a 16G these days (no point for much other than swinging dicks on a dyno or *yawn* drag racing), but a 16G, while versatile, starts upwards of $400. You could build your entire turbo kit for that amount.

Even though its component balenced, use a sharpie to mark the Compressor wheel and shaft so that you put them back on in the same manner. It may seem useless but its a little bit of insurance in case the people you are listening to (via the Web) are full of shit.

Do this and you wont ever have to worry. I have rebuilt a couple turbos and never had a problem with premature failure. I have been running a turbo I mixed components with for almost a year with no problems so far.
