#10687, "motor rebuild for turbo....??"

Ok, what kind of power loss(gain?) would I be lookin at if I were to rebuild the motor with 8.5 compression pistons, eagle rods, total seal rings, ported head, stronger valves/springs/retainers, and new cams(you get the idea).

but if I did the above, It would be another 6 months or so before I'd have the cash for a turbo kit...

would my power losses be pretty drastic by running low compression pistons with no turbo?

would the different cams help a little? or hurt me even more?

I need a quick lesson on cam lift/duration and it's relation to compression and/or turbo.

i think its like 4 percent for every point, so you'd be at like 134 hp if thats the case. I imagine the cams will also slow you down since for turbo you get some that retard upper end timing, not sure. If you get an underdrive pulley, it might all balance out emoji

hey, I'm rebuilding my engine as of right now, actually I'd call it overhaul cause I pretty much using stock parts and changing seals, gaskets, rings n such...NEways, cam lift/duration have no affect on compression, but a higher lift and longer duration cam would greatly increase top end power, along with overlap...but this could mess up your idle depending on how aggrssive of a cam your running..I'm sure other people on board could give you more info..

my first plan was to run the turbo kit for 6 months or so, till I could afford the rebuild, but I'm afraid she'll go before that, which is why I was contemplating the rebuild first...

I'll probably just get the kit and not turn up the boost too much...

Yeah Blake I would hold off on the rebuild untile you could do it all at once. I know I would miss the power. Cams you want for turbo are not great for making NA power. How many miles on your motor again? Just be carefull with the boost make sure fuel is tuned in right and you shouldn't have any problems until you can save up for the rebuild.

(Do I hear a trip or two down to help with a turbo install?? emoji)

PS as soon as I get a hold of Guy I'll shoot you an e-mail and let you know what's going on with the car show.

another good thing is the motor will be broken in, so as soon as you get the turbo you're ready to fly emoji
