So as god put a curse on my car ever since day 1 of modding it seems he struck again,I was on the freeway on ramp when outa left field my car started smoking when i gunned it making a smoke screen and such then it went away after a mile or so but now its smokin slightly burnin up oil on acceleration which costs me 9 bucks a quart im doin a dry and wet compression test in a few days and hopfully that checks out,it runs fine and air/fuel is 11.5ish at WOT so if compression checks out ima take off my turbo and downpipe and see if its just the turbo seal takin a duece on me so far its had the worst case of shaft play (thx ebay seller)well ill cross my fingers its the turbo seal,if it aint one problem its another lately.

He put the same curse on my car as well. Hopefully its just the turbo seal. My 1g would do that same thing and it was the oil seal on the turbo.

well im just waiting for my nehbore to come back to town till i can borrow the compression tester but I got a few questions on my car,...first i was wanting to know how to check my valve guide seals?I know my vaccum is steady at about 18hgs of vac but will a compression test also tell if its the corporate?fisrt now when I start the car it smokes out the oil catch can more then normal and too much smoke is now leaving the exhaust esppecially if I go wide open throttle and let off the gas it barrels smoke out,I'm really thinkin I broke a ring land but praying thats not what happened,..after the dry/wet compression test what else should i look for,I had a theory and removed each spark plug cap 1 at a time and started the car to see if the smoke would stop on a certain cylinder but it didnt(just a theiory i had I figured if it was a ring land it wouldnt smoke when I had the plug wire removed I dunno)so other then compression test what else can I do?when my car cools im gonna remove the turbo just to be sure no smokes comming out the combustion chamber so in the meentime i would like other idea's on what to check and how i can tell the difference if its a ring land or blown head gasket when I do the commpression test?My idea is if the dry test doesnt check out its most likely a head gasket but if it checks out on wet compression its the ring is this correct?any input would be appreciated, thanx.

well even though i didnt do the compression test yet im now getting smoke coming out every orophus of the car,..i think i can conclude ring land failed, but i dont get it?technically with a boost leak i was only boosting 6 psi with a afr around 11.0-11.5 with only 80k on the engine so why couldnt it hold up to 6 psi?strange.

6 psi should be easy enough for the motor to handle. But there could have been one small bad spot in whatever type of tune you have, and all it takes is a little detonation to rock things loose. If your really baffled about where the leak is, try getting ahold of a leak-down tester. It's what I prefer when diagnosing engine problems over the compression test. Once you put air pressure on the cylinder you will be able to hear where all the air leaks are and pin point your problem a little easier.

Creative thinking? Ingenuity? Hell, It's just an obsession!

When my ringlands broke I could pull the dipstick out and take the oil cap off and get a good bit of smoke comming our there. If thats your case to I would be sure its the ringlands.

ok so heres what i came up with,I tried aleak down test to check my HG but the adapter didnt fit=< anyhoo[br />cylinder #1 dry test 170ish psi wet test 210 psi
cylinder #2 dry test 60 psi wet test 150ish psi
cylinder #3 dry test 170 psi wet test 210 psi
cylinder #4 dry tset 180ish psi wet test 210 psi

looks like its the piston ring for cylinder 2 went out on me and a little further investigating showed i had a slight leak from the vacuum line to fmu causing a delay in fuel pressure rise,so now im in the delema should i go to the wrecking yard and pull another fully rotating neon block for 100 bucks or should i pop in a new piston?this is why i asked the quetion if its possable to remove and reinstall the piston from the bottom of the block so i dont have to buy a new HG and seals,I know next time the head comes off ill have to hela coil some new threads so any thoughts?
