This is my first post but i have read many many hours worth. I read here everyday. well anyway my question is this i've decided to buy my turbo i want to get a hahn turbo kit but i have a few questions right now i have most of the money for a a stage 1 but I was thinking about buying it from this website i just found its www.sportcompactonly.com It seems like they sell you everything that the hahn website does. but the reason im thinking about buying it from there is that i can finance it and save my money for when my motor goes and i have to rebuild it or save it for upgrades. intercoolers,gauges etc. any advice would be great. thanks

First off, if you dont have gauges to read important engine info, you may blow your motor right away.
Second, dont spend the money on a turbo kit, beat it up and blow your engine. Put your money into a nice rebuild kit, rebuild the engine, and THEN turbo it.
I have learned through out the years, it pays off (time AND money) to do things the right way the first time around.

Nothing wrong with boosting a healthy stocker, Mike. Driven and tuned properly, a stage 2 system will provide years of reliable service. It's all on the owner to keep it maintained, though. I have a friend down here who put almost three years of 10psi daily to his stock engine before he finally lost all the ring lands on one of his pistons.
It's all in the tuning, my man. SCO is good people. I've met some of the higher ups there and almost took a job wtih them last summer. They sell more body kits and purge-only nitrous kits (ricer central) than anything else, though, so I'd stick with HRC if you want the technical support and a complete system.

Thats the problem right there. "driven and tuned properly."
No one tunes their cars anymore except for the ones who really care for their cars.
'Most' ppl now that I see on this forum are just slapping on turbo kits, pushing as much as they can out of the motor, and end with bigger, more expensive problems/fixes.
My motor was healthy when I boosted it stock, but it only lasted for 2 months before it spun a rod bearing with only 29,000 miles on the engine.
All I am saying is, the right way to do things with a turbo to run a good amount of boost and be safe, is to rebuild first.

sounds to me like bad maintenance leads to a spun bearing, not just adding a turbo.
My boosted block lasted me 2 yrs and 44k miles on 9-10psi.
