#104017, "internal Qs with turbo instal"

hi, call me a BANME!, b/c that's exactly what i am
i grew up helping my old man with shade tree 350 installs in fiero's...
needless to say; i know little about forced induction

i've got a remanned 420a that needs some beef.
my big "if's" are piston comp ratio's (8ish:1 or 10:1... i'm noid about explosions... guess that's what happens when you go to war) and can the transaxle that comes standard in the rs model stand up to the constant pounding of a 300+ hp power plant... and if the gear ratios need to be altered....

flame me if you want, i'm new to the forum and have only browsed for few hours without finding any answers to my qs.

thanks to those gear heads who can help!

First off welcome. emoji

Most people who go turbo do go lower compression, but there are a few guys out running 10.5:1 with boost. As for the trans as long as it's in good shape to begin with it'll hold up just fine to that kind of power. The manual trans in these cars is very stout when looking at the output it was meant for. There's really not much in the way of changing gears except for in swapping over to a neon trans. Some searching on the neon tranny will give you more details.

Keep using that search function, it's not the best search function IMO, but you can find literally anything about these cars on this site if you look around for it.

agree for most turbo use go for lower compression ratio. and hes right about those few guys who tune the shit out of their car and go with the high compression. i hear/i am using a 8.8:1 ratio

8.8:1 is alot more forgiving than running hi-cr.

Ross makes custom pistons so if you want to run say 8:1, they can make you a set EXACTLY to the specs you want them. My neighboor scott uses them in his 6 second (1/8th mile) vega and has never had a problem dealing with ross or their pistons. Alot of people at the local dragway use them as well and i hear no complaints. They're expensive but worth it.

Goodnight sweetheart...yes its time to go...bum bum bum bum bum...good night sweetheart yes I am one little a$$hole......bum bum bum bum....
