#103139, "Vacuum Questions once turbo'ed"

I have a rebuilt 420A for turbocharging. I'm ready to put the motor and tranny back in. Questions:

1-The vacuum line from the intake manifold to the brake booster. what's going to happen when I run boost pressure thru the intake? Is there something I can hook up to fix that or somewhere else I can run that vacuum line?

2-I checked for a while on here about the evap and egr resistors. Has anyone used them and which?

3-Will the "missing link" fix the vacuum issues and/or the MAP sensor readings?

4-There's a black box on the intake side of the engine block that some vacuum lines went into (some from intake manifold and others from cruise control). What the hell is that thing and do I need to put it back on? The service manual says it's a charcoal canister.

5-Does anyone have any advice on what is a good stand alone or piggy back to run for the computer system? '97 venge, 420A motor with auto trans.

Thanks for the help.

#3 - It depends, I run a ML right now, and absolutely hate it. I do get fuel cut sometimes; The car will shudder and wrench violently if I ease into boost. (I'm just too cheap to buy an FCD right now.) Buy an FCD and forget about it.

#5 - MS&S, Search around and you'll find a great deal of support for it. (You'll have to wait for another member to chime in on it though, I don't have one yet.) From what I gather it is simply the best tuning tool for the price, hands down. On the other hand, you could go with an AEM EMS, but you'll pay out the ass for it.($1k+) Also, not a lot of people on this board use it.

Paypal me $25 and I will make you a FCD.

What does FCD and MS&S stand for? I'm not on the up and up for acronyms.

FCD = fuel cut defender
MS&S = Megasquirt and spark

#4 the black box on the intake side of the motor is for your cruise control. if you don't use cruise get rid of it

Sweet. Thanks. I pretty much removed every last bit of vacuum tubes and components. The only one I've been concerned with is the tube to the brake booster.

I looked at AEM and they're outrageous in price and they don't offer anything for the auto trans. Or non that I could find.

Anyone that has a MS&S...how are they? Easy / hard to install? I've never heard of megasquirt before. I typed in megasquirt.com and got a big surprise here at work. Bad idea!!

LOL I'm sorry that's hilarious!

Also like someone said above, I run a missing link right now. And sometimes my car shudders or misses when I ease into boost as well (especially cruising on the highway and trying to accelerate) - I sure hope that's the ML's fault and not something more serious. I guess I need and FCD as well soon.

Anyone use the Greddy E-manage with the 420a motor and harness? Or the Profec-E01?

You could be a guinea pig and try out the AEM F/IC before it gets validated on our platform. That's probably the route I'm going to go (hopefully no CELs)

I am going to be running the AEM FIC in a few weeks when my motor gets back from the machine shop. Its all wired in ready to go. The wiring is easy only about 20 wires. Running 788cc racetronix injectors. I Guess I'm the pig. The neons are having good luck with it.

will it work with an auto tranny even though it says its for the manual? Some ASOG guys are running AEM's but again, they have manuals not auto's.

Yes it should work with auto. The factory ecu is still running it all but the aem FIC is modifing the fuel and timing. The factory ecu still controls the Auto Trans.

Sounds good. So far I've gotten alot of good info.

Do you know if there's any way to correct question #1? I don't wanna run the car around and then the brakes take a shit.

You can put a check valve in that line to keep the booster from seeing boost. I have one in my line. Some people do some don't. I don't really think you need one because you shouldn't be using the brakes when the boost is up normally.

True. I thought that too. but my concern was the boost running thru the line when not using the brakes... i didn't know if it wouldve pressure locked the boost cylinder.

where'd you get the check valve?

As soon as you let off the throttle to brake, you're back in vacuum. There's nothing to worry about.
