Ok, I just finished converting my RS to an RS-T, and I have a bit of a problem. When I start the car up, just tons of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. Ive read up on causes on this, but I am still in the woods on some of these things. I think there is something wrong with the turbo (T3/T4) because it was leaking oil from the shaft into the exhaust, but then again, wouldent it burn blue smoke? I cleaned it and ran it again, and its fine now, but still white smoke. I just changed the oil yesterday and the smoke is bellowing out from the exhaust and wont go away. I hear this might be a coolant problem or i have water in the engine or whatever. Can someone just please help me out with this? I wanna drive my baby again. Also, The wastegate right at the moment does not have a dump tube (its on its way), and I'm wondering about this cuz when I start the car, I can feel the exhaust coming out from it, now shouldn't it not do that until I'm like driving it around? I read that i should connect my wastegate to the MBC then to the BOV vac line, which is then connected to the intake mani. Can someone clarify this for me please? Thank you very much for your time everyone.

~Alex

If I'm not mistaken white smoke can be a sign of moisture...How long did the car sit for?

I've seen it on my car a few times only when the cars been sitting for a while.

i had the exact same issue when i turboed mine. Mine sat for three weeks and when i started it, i had white smoke and it smelled like steam. It went away after awhile.

it has been sitting since about october (btw i live in WASH, idk if that would make any difference or not temp wise). im in HS and ive been really busy with school so it kinda went on for a while. but i just got back from working on it and i realized that my oil return line had a kink in it and so the oil was like backed up in the turbo and it leaked into the exhaust (the smoke had a blue tint to it, not much but only a lil), and i really wanna believe its only like steam, but this is my 3rd day working on it, and all the times i have started her up, white smoke. i changed the oil yesterday, flushed and refilled the coolant today, and now this is like the last problem i have. how long did it take for your smoke to go away?

for me, about a week. i live in a very humid climate and i believe a considerable amount of moisture accumilated inside while sitting on jacks for three weeks.

What do you mean by dual port? Actually I think I know what you mean, two fittings, one on the side and one on the top. There should be a nipple on your compressor housing to source off of, that's your best bet IMO. Run a line from there to your mbc and then from your mbc to the side port on your wastegate. Top port on the wastegate should be left alone.

awesome, thanks man. shit, okay, quick one last one haha, is it normal for the wastegate to be like a little bit open while in idle? cuz i can feel the exhaust coming out from it, and i didn't think it would kick in until i let off the throttle suddenly .

Did you install the ring seal between the wastegate and gasket? Some wastegates have them built in and some have a ring that pops in and out (knockoffs). My buddy forgot to install his and exhaust was coming out at idle from the wastegate and it wouldn't build boost because of this.

Also, hopefully the kinked oil line problem you had didn't blow the seals on your turbo. It could become a costly mistake.

thats a BOV and not a wastegate that does that, the wastegate only respondes to changes in boost pressure and when and how fast it responds is dependent on the source where its taped (Maximum Boost Ch. 12 ), it could care less whats going on with your throttle plate

Ok crap, i started it up today and i started to notice the smoke is becoming blue. I shut the car off, got it in my garage and took the exhaust downpipe for the turbo, and, its not like drenched in oil, but oil has leaked into the exhaust portion of the turbo and the lining of the turbo as well as the exhaust pipes are coated with a small lining of oil. this was the old oil tho, i started it up earlier (before i changed the oil) and now the old oil is still lingering around in the pipes. can someone help me out here?
