Currently use SAFC with settings at -18 idle, -22 2K, -24 3k, -22 4k, Presssure 6 in 6 out, SFMU 2.72 disc, dark spring, Fuel Pressure is 14-15 psi, 400cc injectors, Missing Link, AEM wideband, Vac is 18hg, 60mm TB, never boost more than 5 psi, EGR Block off, no codes besides the EGR one.

When starting the car it surges for about 30 seconds from extremely lean to extremely rich (600rpms-1500 rpms), then it stays extremely lean, 16-to unreadble on wideband for about 2 mins as it try's to keep running, and then slowly starts to come back down to normal ranges around 13.9 to 14.2 at idle. This whole process takes about 3 mins. EVERY time I start the car. Even after its been warmed up. After this whole ordeal the car runs great for daily driving and boost less than 5 psi.

I took out the Missing Link and tried to fire it up a few times but still the same. I tried messing with different IN OUT pressures on the SAFC but still the same.

Is it the SFMU? Do they just not work right at such low levels of FP? I have to keep them low just to use the injectors or other wise I would have to set my SAFC to curve levels around -40.

Could it be the SAFC? Does the ECU just freak out when the SAFC tries to take over adjusting the fuel curve at start up?

Im thinking of going back to stock injectors once I find some. My fuel set up should be fine to use the stockers and I'll just bump the SFMU FP up to about 47 psi.

Any input? Is this surging normal?

THe only other thing I can think of is the fried wiring. The upper wiring harness where you tie the SAFC into that plugs into the ECU got toasted badly. So bad that most of the sections had to be cut out and replaced with a small section of wire. Is it possible to replace that section of wiring. I see that it comes from the ECU connection down to a small plastic housing about 4 inches square. Is that plastic housing just a bunch of pin connections? Could I steal the wiring from a 97-99 junker and just plug in the pins or would I be slicing into wires all over again?

Another thing that throws me is setting the SFMU. I pull of the vac line and set the screw so it reads 22psi on the FP guage, put the vac line on and it reads 8-10 psi.

So I monkey with it and turn the screw in to 40psi with the vac line off. Add the vac line and it shows 20 psi. (in line restrictor included, however that does nothing either, whether you include it or not or flip it around)

I thouhgt the tuning adivce was to achieve static (vac line off) FP close to the FP after you have added the vac line. For example 22 static (no vac) 18 psi vac line on SFMU?!?!

My vac is 18-20 hg at idle. So im thinking it makes sense that when you connect the vac line to the SFMU the FP guage reading should drop by that amount. Do I have something wrong? Will those variances cause issues?

Return line is a 6an SS line connected from fuel rail to the side of the SFMU, Bottom port of SFMU is 4an line and goes to tank. The stock FPR in the return line back by the tank was removed.

No one has any input on this?

Does anyone know what factory componets on an eclipse that would send a signal to the ECU when you start the car and cause a lean condition for about a min. or two but then run normal? Im talking really lean. The wide band won't read it usually.

In other words if the front O-2 sensor was reading wrong would it cause a brief lean period say about a min. or so when you first start the vehicle whether warmed up or cold?

Would the coolant sensor do this? Or air temp sensor?

I have isolated the SAFC and Missing Link. They are not the cause. Im running stock injectors now, FP is 20 psi with 18 VAC and it still shows a bit rich at idle "87-92" once the car is warmed up.

But once the car is running it runs great and Wideband shows its doing fine in all gears at all speeds.
