#10214, "3/4 of the way done, well is a car every really done?"

Well, I have got the beast 3/4 of the way back together. As some of you know I have been having back troubles lately so my progress went from "just about finished" to stopped in its tracks for a lil' while till i get some r&r... Well, I am designing some kind of heat shield right now in my down time... The pics below show the 1st try I did, I'm still making mods to it and then I will make a new one with the new additions to finalize it.

After I get the IC piping reinstalled, I have to take it to a local shop to have some new sections made, and some 90 deg bends made so I can replace having to use 90 deg "L" shaped connectors with nice straight turbonetics silicone connectors... After the pipes are all made and fitted how I want, I am having them powdercoated the same transparent red that the valve cover is. Then I'll slap the front fascia back on and head to the dyno.

I do have a couple q's for you guys though... I want to work on cramming more air in now... so I am wanting to get a intake manifold and tb. I will probably go with the Venom intake manifold since no one has tried it yet, I might as well give her a whirl. Is that intake manifold just the upper plenum? Or is it the whole kit and kaboodle that bolts right up to the head? Also, I need some help with a throttle body guys... What am I looking for? I dont want to get that intake manifold and only have a 55mm afx tb on there, is there any other options? Can I get a 60-70mm that the throttle cable would connect to correctly? What intake upgrades are you all doing and what kinds of reliability reports do you all have? I want more air under boost, but I need it to hold an idle... I am sure a decent tuner could tune the dfi pretty good to aid the idle quality, huh? Any help much appreciated.

hah, if i sold drugs, then i'd get stage 3 axles today.. btw, here is a pic of the engine before this last tear down....

btw, that heat wrap can be installed with the piping still installed, a bit harder, but deffinately easier than uninstalling the turbo assembly and then doing it, i did it durring one of my past tear down sessions...

check modernperformance.com
They have a billet aluminum TB at 55 or 60mm for $250.
You have to go to the links for the '94-'99 neon. I have compared the two TB's and as far as I can tell, the neons are exactly like ours. Plus this is a new one, not a bored TB. Not a bad deal I think.

I talked to ModernPerformance a while back about their 60mm Neon throttle body, and I was told that it would NOT work. So, I assume that a 55mm would not work as well. I think it was due to the throttle cable... You know what, a friend of mine has a Neon. I am going to run over there and check it out for myself.

As of right now, my idle is fine... Sometimes its erratic and sounds like it has a redical cam in it, but most of the time its just fine.. I just want to start working on the intake, and I know whatever is done with tb's and intake manifolds and cams etc... all cause a noticible loss of idle quality... I just want to know how I will know if a 60mm tb will idle? and if the intake manifold will dick me over on idle too... I know the DFI can compensate for some stuff.. but i dunno what all i can get by with before this girl turns full drag...

BBK doesn't make one for the 420a emoji And I am pretty sure the throttle linkage wont fit the neon throttle bodys if i remember my cousins 420a powered neon correcty.. I think the throttle cable is on the opposite site.

thanks much... i wish i could find a local to mandrel bend for a decent price, the only ones that can do it around here want to take mandrel bent sections and weld em together... fuck, i could do that...probably end up ordering my own pieces, cut and tack weld em how i need em and take em to a shop to have the welds finished and the "lip" bent into the in's and out's or weld a bead around them...

thanks for all the positive support guys, and erich, your welcome to come over anytime and help me wrench away on her again... i always need another helping hand, expecially with my back troubles... and kory, i hope to turn out some 11's hopefully, and i doubt i'll break into 10's unless i finish the install of the laughing gas or go stroker... which wont happen till after i blow her... i'll probably get her dyno tuned, get some runs in next season, run the NOS, get some runs in and see how she's doing, if it blows, then stroker here i come.... thats my gameplan atleast... but i have to have stroker kit money before the NOS is even though of being hooked up... i'll keep you guys posted, and wishfully, i want to get my car to the shootout next year and make all 420a's proud, maby we can get murix and bill and armond and maby mark's 30psi star car out there throwin down the hammer.
