Being the intercooler junkyard master and all I was wondering what the advantages of these different intercooler designs are. Of course they're all air to air intercoolers but each of them flow differently. Well here they are, I'm just curious, I already have an intercooler
This is my modified starion intercooler, as you can see it flow past the top on that pipe and curves into the end tank. The airflow goes through the endtank and horizontally on all flow tubes to the other side where the outlet tube is. Got this pic from Road Race Engineering anyway this one flows from the top and the air goes vertically downward toward the other endtake and out the other pipe. This setup has more rows but less length. I'll bet this one is probably more effective but I'll leave it to someone who knows for sure. It also looks purdy This is the supposedly final NER FMIC. As you can see the end tank at the end has no pipes going out of it. THe air flow through one pipe and accross half the tope half core horizontally and curves around the on the other side and through the bottom half and out through the bottom pipe.
Just for fun I added this picture of a twin turbo intercooler. Heh it'd be just like the NER intercooler if the outlet were plugged up wouldn't it?

I REALLY like the NER IC.. because it's sitting in my room. That pic doesn't do it justice.. that sucker is HUGE.

Welp my best bet says the 992 is the baddest motha ever made. Plus it was free(for changing out 2 turbos off a skyline)go with the spearco

I bought it straight from Shaun.. he's not too far away and we hang out sometime. i won't quote a price, becuase i'm not sure what he's selling them for. (i got it to try and fit that huge sucker behind my bumper and make some mounting brackets for it. If i like it, i buy it. If not, i give him the writeup and the IC back.)

doh no1 really answered my question. I wanted to know which of those intercooler styles or type of is the most effiecient. I didn't want to know which one of the ones I pictured are the best because obvsiously if you pay more you get more, then again I paid 5 bucks for my intercooler except the fact I had to get it modified

sorry, dont know for sure, but i did modify the end tanks on my spearco to flow like the NER one.
i did it to make running piping easier, BUT I figured the air has to travle thru twice as much cooling area now. at the same rate, you could argue that the air has to travel further now, but thats not true since you save piping distance by having the IC piping on the same side, rather than having the inlet or outlet piping having to span more distance.
Also, there is likely to be less of a pressure drop since theres only 1/2 as much area to "fill". so in theory, you get the pressure drop of a smaller IC, while getting the cooling of a larger IC....but theories suck and never work out, lol...well, you asked me to take a guess
