Do I need to upgrade valve springs and retainers if I'm going to be running 15+ psi? Anybody had any problems with stock valves? The Crane valve spring and retainer kit is only $230 or so, would that be worth it just to get that last few RPM's until the stock ECU's rev limit at 7450? Anybody think it's worth it? Thanks

No.

Not sure what you're asking here. Stock valves are stock valves. People have had problems, but not just from the valves. Could be from timing belt failure and related.

You don't need them, but if you plan on upgrading camshafts in the future it wouldn't be a bad idea at this point if you can source the extra cash. You may want to hold off and wait if you plan to do any headwork, and then do everything you want with the valvetrain at that point.

I think he might be talkin about having valve float from the extra air pressure on the valve, as opposed to the N/A. The N/A's rev limiter is usually set by the safe point before the valves float. I've been wonderin this also, but haven't been able to get to a dyno to see if it's happening or not.

But they upgraded the valvetrain to run a 10.4?

That isn't an oil leak; it's sweat from all of that horsepower.

it was a 10.8. You're not going to run 10.80's.
No, you don't need springs for 15+psi.
The stock fuel cut rev limit is 7200RPM. Spark cut is 7800RPM.

Thats not the point here.
I highly doubt Cameron here plans to run 10 or 11 sec passes right away. Theres plenty of time for him to work on more important issues than worrying about valve float. How many people here have turbocharged their cars on the stock valvetrain? Plenty. It really isn't as big as a concern as people make it out to be. I bet something else breaks before a valve floats anyway.

Well, I do plan to be running low 12's or high 11's at the track with 110 octane and 20-22psi with slicks. I dont know if any of you guys know Brad that worked for Hahn Racecraft, but he said that valve springs and retainers would be a good upgrade with over a stage 2. But the valves themselves and the rest of the head was stock. But the new tech guy over at Hahn says that I don't need valve springs. Other people say I dont too, but I never had a question that Brad couldn't answer. He knew his stuff. I just wanted to see what everyone on here was doing. Thanks

HRC only upgrade the valve springs because Bill was going to begin testing a ported head and then try different cams. He didnt do it due to air pressure or RPM.
