#101719, "Do I need to upgrade exhaust with an external wastegate and dump tube?"

Hey guys, I am looking at a turbo kit for my 420A the link is (http://treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=235&cat_key=12&prodname=420a+Turbo+kit+95-99+Eclipse+Talon) If you guys could just take a look at it and get your input on it. I was wondering if i will need to upgrade my exhaust since it has a dump tube. Does the dump tube act as another exhaust outlet, relieving alot of exhaust pressure from the downpipe and catback? Or do i still need to upgrade exhaust? It says they have someone running a 600fwhp with 2.5" downpipe and full exhaust. I'm not running anywhere near that. I'd be probably around 400 max at the wheels. max of 20-22psi. I'll be using a walbro 255 fuel pump and hahn racecrafts portfueler with a 50 trim turbonetics turbo, on a built motor of course. I think stock exhaust is 2.25". Could i get away with 2.5"? 3" is outrageously expensive. and a gst exhaust will fit on the rs/gs right? Any and all input, opinions, and sugguestions would be greatly appreciated. I dont have any of this stuff yet, so if anyone has a better possible solution for a similar cost, I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks everyone!

Really??? Of course you need to upgrade your exhaust otherwise you'll see high egt's lose a lot of peak power and not to mention you'll see better spool up on the turbo. You are spending about 2k on a turbo kit plus another 1k on the portfueler and built a motor and you don't want to shell out the money for a 3" exhaust. Come on, if you're gonna do something do it right, don't do it like your name infers you might try. Yes name brands can be kind of expensive, but you can get a great 3" exhaust off of ebay for around $250-$300.

Oh and if you don't know what the dump tube is, you better start reading before you go buying all these parts for your car and having no idea wtf you are doing with them.

No need to get an attitude dude. I just asked a question about the 3" exhaust with the dump tube. I'm not real familiar with external gates because i've been readin up internals with the hahn kit. It said someone was running 600hp on 2.5" downpipe and full exhaust. Wasn't sure if dumptube would relieve it enough to go with 2.5" all the way back since i'm nowhere near 600hp. I see you have an rs-t. How's that star kit running for you? Any good? Built motor or no?

Do you know what a dump tube is for?

He didn't have an attitude with you either.

I have the same kit and I ran a 2.5 inch exhaust for a little while. I went to ebay and got a 3 inch exhaust for $180 shipped from boombop.

Go 3"... I had stock on for the first 2 weeks of going turbo and then I got my SR*S 3" from ebay for 225 and life is great. EGT's dropped insanely, pulled much better, and boosted much earlier.

Mr 7 total posts should listen to Mr over 1600 posts that means he is much smarter than you and knows what he is talking about. Can you say the same thing

Look once I wanted a 600hp eclipse then I asked a dumb question and was owned by a member here. After I pulled my head out of my ass I did my homework and started to use the search button.

there is soooooooooo much info here I bet you could find a post about wind resistance with fake boobs.

Ok Mr 7 posts how do you get a 600hp fwd car to not spin its front tires everytime you take off or a 400 hp monster for that matter

600/400 hp can be done sure but its not cheap and it will drive like shit on the street.

so in closing when a member tells you something and he has been here for years listen to him or go play with the DSM trader crowd.

We will build you bigger and stronger

Wake up and drive my ass... More like wake up and fix it.

If the opposite of Pro is Con
then the opposite of Progress is Congress
