Well the turbo is shot. Its a Hahn S16G. Ordered the rebuild kit today so I have awhile until it arrives. Took some pictures of the turbines and wanted to know if they look ok. I don't really know what to look for. Its appears the fan blades are a little scrapped up but not bad. On the compressor side, the shaft that comes out I can wobble a little bit. Normal? Anyways heres the pictures.

I see that alot on the 7.3L Ford Powerstroke Diesel, that i work on and run a K&N air filter, it basicly allowing too much dirt/debris to enter the turbo and it eats away at the turbine that is spining over 15,000 rpms. Needless to say that turbo is shot/bad/broke.

How bad are you thinking? I know that it is bad as it was smoking out the compressor side before I took it off. I figured it was just the bearings so I was going to do a rebuild of it. Do you think that will be sufficient, or are we talking a lot of damage?

The turbo will work, as long as the the fins do not touch the housings on either side. there is supose to be a little movement up and down. Rebuilding the turbo if the seals were leaking, will work if thats what was causing the smoke.

If the turbo was brand new when u installed it, and now looks like this I would seriously run a comp test. If the test is low, then a cylinder leak down test to see how bad ur rings have been eatin away by all the dirt/debris entering your engine. this will also cause smoke. <--worst case senerio but does happen. Keep the air filter clean.

Appreciate the help. I'm in the middle of the worst case scenario. Engine is already freshly rebuilt and now time for the turbo. Thanks again.
