#101647, "What kind of exhaust do you guys use?"

Everyone who is turbo, I am curious to see what kind of exhaust you guys are using? 2.5 inch, 3 inch? What brand? How do you like it and how is the tone?

I will start, I was using the 3" catback Tanabe Racing Medalion but I am going with something custom now, possible even duals.

Tsudo N1 3" Catback off of eBay. Costed about 240 shipped I think. The hangers were put on kinda crappy (spot welds basically) so I brought it in and had some better welds put on them to hold better and not flex. Tone sounds great, just wish it was a little louder (has 2 resonators in the exhaust, might get that fixed down the road). Full stainless steel though.

I am trying to figure out something to use on a buddy's car that I am helping build over winter.

He looked at the fake n1 catbacks on ebay, but I thought they would sound high picthed and nasty since they are cheapies.

But if you 2 guys both have knock of n1's that are deep, thats what he wants.

Good thread already.

Yep, mine has a nice deep tone to it at idle and sounds great when I am running it through the gears.

I have had the REAL apexi N1 3" exhaust and I liked it. Recently i changed over to Hahn's 3" Thermal R&D just because its stainless. I like both exhausts and to me they are very similer in sound. I also like the greddy EVO 3", not the new EVO but the original one.

I have weighed going custom but when it comes down to it, I dont think the effort is worth the outcome. What are you really going to save? I would rather concentrate on something a little more worthy of my time. As for Duals...thats just plain gay on the 4 banger.

Yea I was going to do some custom cutout into another muffler which would make it dual on my car but I eliminated that.

My buddy wants to know if anyone has a sound clip of the knock off n1's?

I run an extended Thermal R&D 3" catback and 3" Flowmaster cat. It's very deep and mean sounding at idle. I don't think it's "too" loud, but my car has been the subject at a few neighborhood meetings.

I also run a tsudo N1, but I don't think it's the same as the others posted. I believe it only has one resonator, and the hangers looked pretty good IMO. Fitment was great, sound, not quiet, not annoyingly loud, just a nice deep rumble. I think I spent $300ish shipped. Can't find the seller looking through my feedback though emoji

Okay well my buddy got the n1 catback off ebay. We bought the one for the GST since it was offered in 3". We got it yesterday, took a look at it and it looks nice. Only thing is, I dont know if its gonna fit. The pipes look odd to me but I dont remember exactly what it should look like, lol. The hangers are weird too. The are welded off too the side and threaded??? I dont see how those are going to work. Does anyone have any pics of theirs they got off the car? Like before you installed it so I can see if the piping is the same. It should be the same for the GST since the bodies are the same, I think even my Tanabe exhaust was for the GST.

I don't have any pics for you Mike, but I remember my hangers being like that. Just needed to get some nuts/bolts and it mounted in the stock location. FYI only fitment issue I remember is it was very close to the spare tire well and would rattle against it sometimes. Think I fixed it but don't remember, it's been a while since I drove it. emoji

Edit here's my review from the wiki...

yea, except for pipe size obviously. i set it side by side with my previous greddy evo exhaust for an rs/gs and it had the same bends. i heard from others it is loud on the highway, but i have a cat so maybe that keeps it quiet? however mine is very quiet until you really get on it, and with the silencer, its a whisper.

3" SR*S cat-back with a 2.5" downpipe and test pipe. Got the cat-back off ebay for like 225, I love it. Could not be any more happy with the sound and performance.

I have the Tsudo N-1 and I like it. I also have the OBX high flow cat, it is quiet but the cat is junk; more like an $80 test pipe.

I have a single peice full turbo back 3" into an N1 off of ebay. right after the downpipe I put a 3"x8" flex pipe. no cat or anything else...its quiet enough you can actually talk in a calm voice and still hear while driving on the highway. at WOT it sounds great not ricey. I dont know how to put sound on here but if I can figure something out I'll try it.

LOL I am running 2.5 inch with the Stock muffler LOL, YEah I know not very racie LOL. However if does resonate when I boost. I am running 200 Hp right know. I am thinking of buying a OEM 2007 eclipse GT ( yes the 263HP V6) OEM muffler. Just so I keep my sound down in a reasonable level and still flow 250HP worth. emoji

When I still had my car, I had a custom 2.5" press bent turbo-back exhaust made at http://www.louscustomexhaust.com/

I highly recommend them for those in the New England area. They do top notch work.

3" apex'i here, mated to a 3" DP. I like the exhaust, spools the t3/t4 nicely w/o being obnoxiously loud. Anything 2.5" or above will work up to the point your making 450+ wheel. My boys old school 1g Rust Rkt ran 11's ALL DAY with a press bent 2.5" and magnaflow muffler with a BR 20g. It was the most consistent car in the history of dsm's. If any of you have shoot vids from 2-3 yrs ago his car was the all black 1g with steelies in the quick 8.

400whp or bust.

3 inch downpipe to 3 inch apex'i N1 no cat. Really like it. Ran open 3 inch downpipe for a while, and it spooled nice but was very loud for a street car.

I have a 2.5" downpipe to a stock cat to a 2.5" Tsudo N1 cat-back.

Now that I'm turbo I might get a cheap 2.5" test pipe to replace the cat, we'll see.

I know several of us run the Tsudo N1 style (knock off of the Apexi N1), but there is a new Tsudo model called the Type-X. It is a Greddy Evo-2 knock off. Does anyone have one yet? I may look to that when I upgrade to 3" exhaust later on.

2.25" stock n/t exhaust with a section of clamped on piping w/adapters to a v-racing (by konig or so they say) muffler.

I absolutely hate it. It sounds ok at idle and deep at wot due to no cat but i'm wanting a full 3" system very soon. Haven't decided on a muffler yet. HKS Carbon maybe with the ti flame burnt tip....would look tits on an all black car.

I have the cheap stainless steel 3" cat back system. I got it new on ebay for $150. Its a Chinese knockoff of a tanabi or something.

Im not running my turbo motor yet. I havent had the time to install the motor, but the exhaust is on. It sounds good, deep low tone, not ricey at all

Here are the links to the exhaust

I use the HKS HI-Power 2.5" catback. I love it. I previously had the Apexi Megaphone dunk. I loved that too, but I like the style of the slant HKS better.
By the way, RS and GS exhausts are different from the GST ones. My Dunk exhaust went over the rear axle section or whatever you want to call it, and that was for the non-turbo. The new HKS is from a GST, and it goes under that section and is very low. I love that Slant though!
