So, i got bored just now and started thinking of stupid things to do, and this one seemed to be a 1/2 decient idea. I figure, we have that nice drive shaft tunnel we could use to route the intake charge back to the front, and it would solve any issues we could have with fittment.
I know there are tons of kits comming on the market for rear mount turbo systems in muscle cars... so i mean, is it even possible? and would it be feasible (sp?).
Plus it would probly be cheaper. no pricy manifold to buy and all.

Lots of expensive parts, and still slow! Oh wait, it has to run to go fast.

The fabrication and extra piping would cancel out any savings from not buying a manifold. You would also have to figure out a way to get the oil back to the pan from the turbo as gravity won't be doing the trick for you. Not worth it IMO. Plus do you want to worry about scraping your turbo on the ground when going over speed bumps or down crappy roads?

Well, i guess thats not as good of an idea as i thought. Of course if i had the parts laying around and i was bored (wich i am if i think up things like that) i'd give it a try. Just to see what would happen.
The way it was explained in the show i saw that featured this, was yes, you loose mabye 1 PSI from the rear to the front of the vehicle, but you gain a much cooler intake charge, even if you dont use an intercooler. And as far as the whole rain thing and sucking up water, The car they put these on was a brand new Corvette. Eathier it will never see rain, OR all you need to do is put a splash shield on it and route the intake for the turbo right.
But anyways... i'll stop. i dont need people thinking im an idiot or anything.

sts makes kits. they work great. we have a pontiac GTO 5.7 with a sts kit. they do not require an intercooler and it will keep your engine bay nice and cool. plus if you still have a cat, clean exhaust will run through your turbo, so you have less carbon build up...

man its fun enought with one 3" pipe to deal with under the car, let alone adding 2 more plus the oil / water lines and then making sure there are no leaks from road debris pinging your $$ turbo and conections. and with some of our cars droped in the 2-3" range, one miss judge of a speed bump may clip that system right out.
neat idea, but not too practical with our cars and especially compared to current available systems.

At first, i thought you were going to put a neon head on and try to squeeze a turbo between that and the firewall.
Either way, i wouldn't want to have to work on those systems. Too much of a headache.
As far as oil return for the turbo on a rear-mount setup..... A scavenge pump would take care of that no problem. I do think you'd need an oil sepparator as well with the turbo being so close to the oil pan.
All turbo cars should have one in my opinion. The oil comes out of the turbo in a nice, hot, bubbly froth. From there it heads to your oil pan, gets sucked into the pickup and then all through your engine. Turbo timer or not, that shit can't be good for an engine.

the reason they do it with v8's is there is a lack of extra engine bay space for the turbo and plumbing and they dont need to be very efficient to make alot of power
