#100878, "Boost and EGT gauge questions HELP"

Alright guys i got new silicone couplers and t-bolts and also moved my air filter to directly on the turbo instead of the intake pipe.Car was boosting good until the waste gate vacuum hose ripped open and it boosted to 10psi so i fixed that and now it only hits 4 psi. Well those cheapass t-bolts stripped out and i replaced them with worm clamps for now.I don't hear a boost leak and IDK what the problem is i figure the WG could have went bad but I dont think it is likely.Ill probabally go get the stuff to make a boost leak tester tommorrow and i also ordered a MBC. Its been one thing after another with this damn car after i turboed it.If it would be reliable I'd love it.

Also, my EGT gauge goes crazy when i turn my lights on and it gets worse with high beams or if i work my power windows.I checked the power and ground and they were good, so is the signal wires off the probe, probe wasn't burnt out either.I did manage to break the bung off in the manifold so i had to re tap it.So any ideas on this one?

Sorry for the long post and TIA.

Brian

I know my autometer EGT went crazy when the top nut on it was loose, make sure both are tight.

As for the boost, might be a problem with the WG. Internal or external?

No, both of them are pretty tight and i think it being with the lights on its something shorting out or opening when the switch is on.Thanks for the idea though ill recheck them anyways.

Its the HRC S16g so its internal i was under the impression it was a 9 psi spring and i have it set all the way open and before the problems it opened at 7psi.I'm gonna try clamping the vacuum hose between the turbo/WG down IF i can find that small of clamp. Also i'm gonna make a boost leak tester and if i don't find any hopefully the MBC will fix it. Maybe its just a weak spring in the wastegate.

My 16G with hahn fmic show only 5-6 psi max on the gauge. Do you have fmic or smic ?

Tested the wg the arm started moving at 7 psi and i still only got 3-4psi so i took the vac. line to see if it would still boost as much as i wanted till i let off and it did. Now on my way home tonight my car was jumping idk if it was wheelhop since it was raining but im almost certain my transmission was slipping DAMN AUTOMATICS.This car is getting to my last damn nerve I'm almost considering selling it.End of rant.

zip ties emoji

oh and sounds like a boost leak if the wastegate is opening at 7psi and you're only seeing 3-4

I zip tied the wastegate and i only got 3-4psi i checked and rechecked all couplers and the bov, fmu, gauge boost source.I even hooked a pressure tester to the boost gauge to test accuracy and make sure it held pressure.I also added washers to my bov in case it was leaking and it didnt help just compressor surged. The other boost leaks I had made a hissing noise, I cant hear anything. This car is about to piss me off and the transmission just scares me.Boost controller should be here this week so ill set it for 8 and see if it stays and if it slips. If it does im setting it to 5 and driving it.As for the EGT going haywire i dont know. Its inconvenient but at least it doesnt affect drivability.

Just a dumb question, Where did you hook up the boost guage to???
I had my hooked up to the niples on the rear of the Intake and it was doing the same and it also lied about the vac...

Then i hoocked it up between the TB (port on the top of the TB) and everything fixed... I now have 20in vac at Idle and Pressure is acurate...

As for the EGT, Where did you run the Power from (My friend hooked it up under the dash somewhere) and it wad doing the same as yours is.
I have it hooked up to the Ignition wire, so it turns on with the Ignition Key in the ON and Start... My guages also have a dimming function, so then I turn on the lights they DIMM a little...

If you want pics of the guage i can make it.

I have my boost hooked up off the EGR and it isnt the gauge because i tested it and it was accurate and before i put on the new couplers i got 8lbs out of it.Miraculously the boost leak or whatever fixed itself and im boosting 8lbs with the wg line on so idk what it is.The EGT gauge however gets its power from the cig lighter the ignition wire.Im gonna recheck my connections and ground it somewhere else and see if it helps but im about fed up with the car.I think the guy who I had put the shift kit done it wrong and thats why its slipping. But ill post about that in the Transmission section. But if anyone has any ideas let me know.Oh and wolvorine what do you mean pics, pics of what about the gauge?

thanks

If it does it again, maybe try teeing the wastegate vacuum line into the intake manifold instead of the turbo. See if that helps. If it does, you probably have some boost leaks somewhere.

Well its making 8psi now so idk whats up.I couldnt and cant hear any boost leaks and the EGT didnt go crazy today so ill just rewire it if it does mess up again. My biggest worry is the slipping transmission. Before the shitkit i could powerbrake it and the car wouldnt move and the tranny didnt slip. Now if i powerbrake it the car jumps like the transmission is slipping.Do you guys know anything wrong the guy who installed it could have done?I guess i should post this in the tranny forum.

Thanks

Sorry I cant help there...

I always hated Auto's. When I got my NEW car, I killed the Auto Trany in less then 17k miles. So the deler replaced it for free and I sold the car.

Now I just pimp out my 97 Eclipse GS 5 speed... Turbo Soon to be installed. after I get the wireing Harness tomorrow srom the dealer...
I ordered all the harneses under the hood. Just needed it. Who ever had this car before me, I want to hurt him. Never seen such a shitty job on wireing...

Hmm idk i haven't had any more slipping problems and i have noticeed the gauge its temperamental though. It will do it at night with the lights on and not during the day.Does it more on bumpy roads but if i jiggle the wires it doesn't affect it lol.Now my car holds steady at 7psi instead of spiking to 8 and creeping back to 7psi.I might put the boost controller on when it gets here and set it to 8.I know one thing though I'm getting some shitty gas milage.
