I found a TDO6H 20G @ http://www.detroitturbo.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=380 for 725.00 but it comes with a 14cm turbine housing. They have an option to add the 10cm turbine housing for an additional $300. The question is, shouldn’t I be able to just swap out the 14cm housing with my current 10cm housing?

If I can do this that would be great, 725.00 is a much better price than 950+ that everyone else is selling the TDOH6 for. I am currently running the TDO5 s20g from HRC and it has a permanent oil leak on the exhaust side. It has been rebuilt once by HRC and once by me. The leak goes away for about two days, soon after I get smoke out the rear. So its new turbo time and I am going to stick with the 20g for now but I just want to get the better TDO6H vs. the TDO5

hmm im just wondering do you have a oil restrictor on the turbo feed line. Some turbos will start leaking if there is too much oil pressure.

not sure if you can just swap housings, but remember your HRC 20G is t-3 flanged, make sure you dont get one thats mitsubishi flanged.

To answer my own question...yes it can. And for anyone looking to upgrade, this is an inexpensive way to make your HRC 16g into a TDO6H 20g. Much better than the 20g upgrade that HRC offers in which they just give you the 20g compressor and housing, keeping your tdo5 turbine in place.

The compressor housing will need to be clocked and a bracket would have to be made for the wastegate actuator to bolt to because once you clock the compressor the holes for the actuator move. HRC solves this by welding on a bung and taps a new hole on the housing.

The 14cm housing that this turbo comes with looks a little different but is basically the same, just a little more round looking. I am going to run it with the 14cm housing for a few weeks just to see if there is any difference between the two. If I don’t like it I will put the 10cm housing back on.

Because I already have a leaky 20g all I have to do is swap compressor housings and bolt the thing up.

Just wondering if you got that thing bolted up yet? If so how is the spool up. I have the 20g with the td05 turbine and was looking to upgrade for a bigger turbine. This looks tempting but i wondering if the 14cm isnt too big and laggy.

Nope it isn’t bolted up yet. The TDO6H turbine is the same regardless of the housing size. So if the 14cm housing is just that (leggy) I will just swap it back to the 10cm housing. I will probably have it bolted up some time in early October because I am working on my graduate project at the moment and have little time for my eclipse.

If you look at the pictures I posted you should see that there is a difference in the shape of the housing. It is more round and flowing vs. the 10cm that is more flat and boxy looking. This turbo also came w/ a 15psi waste gate actuator, which was nice because I have been stuck with my original 5psi actuator forever.

I will post some side-by-sides when I get around to bolting it up.
