Just drive it. I drove mine last winter for awhile and it was a pretty rough winter for us Canadians. The hood was fine, then when I got laid off I just parked the car in the driveway with the hood on, and it was still fine. Just make sure the car is up to temp before driving around (only thing that would hurt the hood, I think, is that when super cold it could get brittle, and then a large rock/chunk of ice might damage it, but even then that's unlikely). At proper operating temp. the hood will be kept warm by the engine.
