I wanted to know if anyone makes a nice mtx shift knob for our cars that screws on just like the stock one? I am tired of the shift knobs that come with the little screws that need to be tightened with an allen key. I have gotten rid of two already because the little screws keep becoming annoyingly loose while driving. Thanks in advance guys.

i removed my screws after i got it where i wanted my knob then used a centerpunch through the holes in the knob. poped it a couple of times to make a nice dent then some Loc-Tite Blue on the screws and boom hasent come loose in 3 years.

Just get a leather oem one, nothing feels or fits better

I know some companies out there have threaded inserts to match up to the threads on the stock shaft, IIRC the latest issue of project car showed an install with one of these.

they're usually quite a bit pricier than the cheap stuff with allen set screws

I have the Greddy couterweighted shiftknob and it screws on like the OEM one does. It feel like bliss when shifted, now only if I could get the BM short throw and metal bushings I would be set!

Ditto on the set-screws being little bastards.


I run a rubber cap that runs the length of the knob on the shifter. Dont think dirty, think tight-fitting, rubber shim.... If the set screws come loose (and they do after about 2 days), the knob doesn't wobble at and isn't that easy to turn.

It works for the time being. I didn't like the stock knob. It felt akward. The only benefit it had over my new knob is the new one gets really, really hot. I've had friends laugh at me burning myself while driving. I'm sure it's funny to other motorists that can see what's going on, too.

I just ran a shift knob from a 07 TC. Also I found out that the Mazda 6 knob fits our cars as well. Just wanted to let you know

Check out MachV.com, they have plenty of name-brand (and OEM) shift knobs that thread onto the stock shifter.

i pick up one by razo a while ago that screw on with no problems whatsoever. whats even cooler about this one is it comes in 200g, 300g, and 400g so it kinda assists with shifting...especially if you have a b& shifter. i really recommend it.

I got a MOMO knob for $50, came with set screws, but they actually had the pointed end on the one, so that it dug into the metal. The thing never moved, although it took some force to get it to drill into the metal on my short shifter...

Option 2 would be to just use some duct tape/electrical tape/painters tape and wrap the top of the shifter, keep adding layers until you can't get the knob on, then take off one layer, and it should hold... we did that to my buddy's Z24 and it's held fine for 5 years now.
