Ok, So as of now the car is all red. Eventually i will be getting a carbon fiber hood (about 3 more months) but i want to get the paint done first.

i have decided to paint the Roof, and hatch black, and leave the rest of the car red (not the CF hood of course it wont be red) The only thing i cant decide on is the wing. I want to keep the non-turbo wing, but i dont know what do do about paint.
should i paint just the center section of the wing black, or all 3 peices? its driving me crazy... Please give some input.

** Current status: 9 bent valves. and it only had 6,000 miles on it. i hope the replacement goes well. **

Lots of expensive parts, and still slow! Oh wait, it has to run to go fast.

Well, the car is going to be Red for the most part. just the hatch, and roof will be Black. (+ carbon fiber hood) this i do know for sure. the thing i cant decide, is the Wing.

I could do the middle part black, and leave the 2 sides red, or i can do the WHOLE wing black. i'm leaning towards the whole wing black but i dont know.

I have sprayed that color before and its very nice. Use a orion silver basecoat or a black base before the color too, you will be VERY pleased.

yeah I know, I'm trying to decide on exactly how I want the basecoat, I'm thinking of starting black and then a light dusting of silver just so that there's something to catch the light, I want it DARK emoji

hey red, if you want a dark wing, I'd do the whole thing, just doing the center would look pretty limp-wristed IMO, you might want to look into a CF hatch as well to really tie everything together

Yea i am getting a carbon hatch, but it wont be for a few months after the paint and turbo.

I'm cheaping out and i am taking my car to Maaco to paint it. it only costs 300 to paint the whole car.... so i figure just the roof and hatch i should be able to get done for cheap.
So i can eathier go there, or rattle can it, and i figure they will do a better job than i will.

if you do maaco, do ALL the prep work yourself, remove the trim, sand down every last millimeter of surface to be painted and do as much body work yourself as possible. they won't. also be willing to pony up a few extra bucks for some extra clearcoat, that way you'll have enough to color sand and polish out the orange peel that they leave behind. the reason that maaco is so cheap is they massively skimp out on the prep and finish work. do the prep and finish work yourself and save money, as well as getting a great paint job for cheap.

and they use cheap acrylic paint. it will flake and peel within 3 months and i gurantee it. your car is going to look like shit, dont bring it to maaco. do it right or dont do it at all.

maybe it's just Deja Vu, but I believe we've had discussions like this before...

the big problem with the chipping is the lack of prep, they don't sand down in grooves or panel joints, and they don't mask off properly leaving nasty tape lines everywhere that allow moisture underneath. I've had great results from maaco on the old Jaguars I've had, spent a few hundred (less than I could buy the paint for) and had them paint the cars, but that's all they did was shoot the color, we did all the prep and finish, the oldest paint job has just finally started flaking, and that's around a particularly nasty rock chip

Well, i know i can get it ready for paint. (its only a wing, roof, and hatch) its the finish work i dont know about. i am not very good with wet/color sanding and i'd be scared i would fuck something up, and need to spend another hundred bucks orso to fix it.
