#97294, "polishing wastegate"

I just had to post this because i am proud of my first attempt at polishing something. I am helping my friend clean up his 96' tsi awd(KRAZYKOREAN's old car if any of you know him from tuners) and we are polishing just about everything under the hood. Here is the hat off the 38mm tial un-polished vs. polished...its a huge difference! it is seriously like a mirror!

Thanks! I love the polished intake manifold! how long did it take to polish? I would think it would take forever to get the texture out. I will post some before and after pics of the talon after we are done, it is turning out really good so far...its funny the oil seals went bad in his 50 trim and then it turned into well we have it this far apart so why not go the extra length and clean it all up. My winter project is going to be cleaning up the engine bay on the silver gs. There are alot of things powder coated blue but they are all slightly different shades so i think i am gunna change it up and just go with the polished/red them and ditch the blue. The wiring and vaccum lines are a disaster and need to be cleaned up at the same time!

Wow, I haven't seen KK's car in a long time. You'll have to post pics. Does it still look the same?

The car is hasn't changed appearance wise on the outside, the kid here in minnesota that baught the car kinda ran it into the ground it wasn't meticulously maintained anymore like KRAZY had it, and the kid blew the engine. After this turbo rebuild and cleaning the plans are to go dsm link and she what it can make for power.

Because it was a really smooth surface to begin with i started out with 1000 grit sand paper and wet sanded it one direction, then i changed direction and wet sanded perpendicular to what i did last time and sanded until i couldn't see any marks from the first direction. I then moved up to 2000 grit and wet sanded perpendcular to the last time until i could not see any marks from the 1000 grit, and again wet sanded with the 2000 perpendicular to the last. After all the wetsanding i used some 3M rubbing compound and hand buffed it to get rid of the tiny scratches that make it dull looking. It looks pretty good after hand buffing with rubbing compound but i hit it with some eagle one micro polish and used a benchtop grinder with a buffing wheel on it and buffed it until the polish turned black. With a soft clean rag i hand buffed all the blackened polish off it and the finish turned out mirror like!
