Well I started on my new box today, it will hold one 12, one amp, one screen and my xbox. I found a really neat trick for anyone who does fiberglassing...I did one coat of resin on the fleece that I stretched, then one coat of resin with matting, then another coat of resin with matting, uh, then more coat of resin with matting, and then when that got tacky, I mixed resin toegther with some body filler and it made the filler more liquid than solid, and spread that with a brush and it will harden up good. The main purpose to doing this was to help the box keep its structure when it is pulled out from the hatch. Usually, when you pull them out and leave them sit for awhile, they will loose shap and shrink. Anyway, this should be done this weekend, so primer pics will be up then. Just wanted to show off my new trick I guess emoji

I see how body work in progress looks...not so good. I guess the sum of the parts does not equal the final product eh? But i cant wait till its done!

Nice box but i surely would not use the WHOLE back of my trunk for 1 12 an amp a monitor n an X box. I work with fiberglass and i would put at least 2 woofers. 4 6x9's and a monitor and then your X-Box. I could have drawn you a much better lay out like the one Im building for my car which would look hot espically with a 2 tone. Of course once you install something like this you usually mold it into your tunk being A.) Not removable, B.) Having to chop it out to remove it if you ever do, C.) Weight, D.) Painting inside your car isnt fun, E.) The air sace design for the woofer you are installing. Thats a lot of weight for not a lot of bump, unless your stuffing a serious woofer in there. What are you doing for your mids? If you built a deck and stacked them in the sides you could get a lot better sound and looks out of the box In any respect, good luck emoji

Not to come off as a dick, but you obviously dont know who I am and what I have done with fiberglass in the past, lol. I know how to design a box let alone anything out of fiberglass. This box is removable and will be painted out of the vehicle. The part for the sub is sealed and this does not weigh much at all since I do not use any structure for it except for the sealed portion. Anyone can design a crazy looking setup, but I wanted some smooth and clean looking. I have had other crazy designs before since this is my 6th deisgn going into the vehicle. I dont want 2 subs, I want one because one is enough for me. For mids and highs, those resort in my door panels, in my fiberglass dash, my quarter panels, etc. Trust me buddy, I know how to design something correctly, not just throw it in one box and have it looked crammed as fuck....

Anyway, here are a few more pics of it coming together with the coat of filler that will be sanded down, smoothed and then a coat of icing over this and its done.

i also used to resin/bondo trick . i used half and half with a couple drops of mekp and proper amount of cream hardener . works great and its almost self leveling . thn i took a body file to it wile it was drying to get rid of all the low spots . i also did the first 2 layers of mat in the car then the last layer while it was out .

It just seems like an awful great big waste of space. You have an entire trunk to work with and all your putting in there is 1 12 a monitor and an x box and an amp.... I dont care how experienced you are with resins and body fillers, if it looks bland to me, I am gonna call it like I see it. I mean seriously, would it kill you to add maybe 1 or to more sets of 6x9's into that enclosure. Think about how much better it would sound, let alone look. Oh well, I guess I would have done more with this than what your doing thats all.

Point is, im not trying to make everything crammed in there. I went for a nice open and smooth look, nothing crazy. I only have one 12 and one amp mainly because I have a child on the way, and although it probably wont ride in the vehicle until it gets older, I dont want bass out the ass destroying its hearing. Thats fine if you dont like it, I dont really care, I was only posting pics for people who PM me asking how to fiberglass, and here it is. This box will look really clean when its all done.

Looks interesting man. I would like to see more pictures as your project progresses. I've been wanting to get into fiberglass a little more than I have already, but I have too many irons in the fire as it. How big is the enclosure for the 12" sub? How much is this thing going to weigh when you are finished?

It will only do that if you pull the fiberglass mould out of what it is being built around/in before it hardens completely and is not braced properly with enough layers of mat.

Looks good for what you want it to, but have fun sanding that thing, from the pics it looks a little wavy. Good luck! emoji
