I put a new face in my gauges in my 97' eclipse . now when i start my car up my tach is reading 3,500 RPM's and my MPH is reading about 60 MPH while sitting still, idling.. What do I do? Help?

Did you take your needles out? If you did, you didnt put them back in properly...

I am compelled to help whenever I can. So here is the information I need from you so that I may I help you. Answer a few questions and I can get you on the rite track.

Is your car an automatic or 5-speed?
Does your car have cruise control?

Now some info pertaining the questions asked and calibrating your RPM

Automatic Rev Limiter- 6500
Standard Rev Limiter- 7000

Your going to have to ballpark where the idle use to be. Do one hard pull down an open road and when you redline it should stop at those programmed points


Info on how to calibrate your speedometer

If you have cruise control this is easily fixed by finding an open road.. Start moving slowly.. Engage cruise control and keep flicking the switch to engage. It will engage at 25mph so let off the gas once it catchs.. Pop the needle on the 25mph as you are cruising on this EMPTY road where there are no potential hazards for yourself and so that others are not in danger.

Obvious Calibrations For Coolant and Fuel

Fill tank and wait 3 minutes for it to be completely calibrated to fill line.. Then place needle on.

Coolant.. Wait 10 minutes to be sure car is at normal operating temperature and place the needle half way between C and H.

I'll never understand whil epeople pull the needles off for installing new gauges faces. I only pull mind because I had to put the lights and clear needles on my cluster

I had to pull mine in order to put my white faced overlays on.. There was no way around it other than Cutting the vinyl to make it go around the needle. In any case if you know what your doing you can re-calibrate them easily. This is a commonly done mod and I plan to do a detailed write-up on it because I have some good info and pictures to share. As soon as I get my new cluster I will share more info. And I am sure azdave will have alot to add when he finishs his custom setup, but that will outweight my simple mod by far because azdave is just awesome with his mods..

Here is a picture of why you have to remove the needles.

I disagree, I have very similar overlays and the needles dont need removed. you slide the speedo one over the travel odometer reset then adjust the angle to slide the needle into the gauge hole.

I did need to remove the needles for the indiglo needle mod though.
