I recently bought the fmic kit off a member here and have'nt heard from him in days. I would like to install it on the car and add some value to it. Anyway, does anyone have pictures of the mounting gear for it how its spaced out etc? In order for me to buy all the shit that he forgot to send me its going to cost me over $150 so I figured I would try and do the home depot solution. So someone please take pictures of what the mounting gear looks like for the fmic.

Thanks In Advance

Mike

I can post up some pics from my recent HRC FMIC install later tonight (I don't have the photos on my work PC).

I have pretty good shots of the mounting setup and how to install pipes around the bumper re-inforcement.

Thanks Dave, it really would help alot because I'm a little annoyed this guy bailed on me and I have over expensive metal decorations in my closet that I can't use. And Nick I may require your help because you said the piping is a pain in the butt, so maybe you could show me really how much hacking of that support bracket has to be done.

Ok, Thank you Dave. Now correct me if I am wrong but it looks like they are just hollowed metal tubes and very large screws that go through the bracket on the intercooler, through that spacing tube and screws in to where the stock fog lights use to be located? Can you tell me exactly how long those tubes are so I know what size to get and how far away the intercooler has to be from the body of the car. Thanks a bunch Dave this helps alot. Wish I could have just gotten all the stuff that was suppose to be with the Hahn kit but atleast I got the main things I guess.

I was also curious as to how many people take off the bumper support? Or do they do what Dave did

Note To Dave: Was it hard for you to cut that plastic up for the bumper support? What did you use to cut it?

ahh! i told you a while back they were just spacers, the bolts are metric 6s not sure on length. The spacers are just a hollow tube that keeps it from pressing up against the rad. support.

Yes, the attachment uses long bolts and hollow aluminum spacers. The spacers are thick enough to take the compressive force of the bolts. The spacers are not thinwall aluminum tubing. I'll check on the length tonight.

Yes, the mounting bolts locate in the same holes as the factory fog light brackets. All 2G Eclipses have those holes and threads ready to use even if your car did not come with fog lights from the factory.

Unfortunately, I think most people pull the bumper support. I do not recommend it if you can keep most of it. The job of the front bumper support is to transfer the load of an impact through the bumper support struts and into the frame of the car. It also distributes the load of an off-axis impact across to the opposite strut to help lessen any damage. I am convinced that it can save substantial damage to the front of your car in the event of an impact. I won't pull it off as long as I have a reasonable means to keep it on there. Cutting part of it out does weaken it but some support strength is better than none.

Cutting the bumper support is tough. It is a glass fiber reinforced composite and it makes you itch when you cut it. I used several Sawzall blades. For final fitting I used a belt sander and 80 grit paper.

Damn this sucks... I wish I had the resources to cut this bumper up but I don't think my hobby shop has saws alls and stuff. I would deffintley like to keep the bumper support though because like you mentioned dave.. some support is better than no support.

Note To Nick: Did you keep your bumper support, I may need your help with that too.. lol

Here is the mounting hardware you'll need.

4 ea. M6 x 1.0 x 95mm length (3.75") all-thread is easiest but a bolt will work.

4 ea. M6 x 1.0 flanged nut

4 ea. 0.50 OD x 0.25 ID x 2.75" length aluminum tube

Nah i lost the bumper support for my R34 front bumper long long ago, possibly even before that when i had the shhhhh....blitz....nobody heard that =)

I had a lady switch lanes into me w/o it hit decently hard, nothing major, and didnt do any crazy damage. Needed a fender and a bumper, and a lil pull on the radiator support.

Dave.. you are awesome, a photo for everything. You have helped me troubleshoot alot of my stuff for my car along with many other memembers cars. You could probably publish a tear down of our cars like a Chilton or Haynes but with many pretty pictures emoji Anyway hopefully I can do it this weekend, I'll let everyone now how it works up. And Nick, I may hit youup in a PM this weekend so keep an eye out. Plus I have to check out the whip now that you got it running.

Ok, well I got everything except those studs.. Lowes, Home Depot.. no one sells them in metric sizes.. I tried a standard to see if I could re-thread it that way but that didnt work. I may have to re-tap it or if anyone knows how I can get the metric studs in that size i'd greatly appreciate it.. Any ideas?

Thanks In Advance

just get a long metric bolt, no NEED for studs it will work just the same, the stud just helps in mounting made easier, get you like a metric 8 bolt with some length to it, if you really gotta have studs there are places in town that you can get them, try rubber and specialties over in Marcus Pointe, they got plenty of random fittings hoses and shit, possibly those, if not I know u can get them local just not positive where. My suggestion would be just use bolts if it becomes too much of a hassle, if you don't like it use them temp, and call up hahn.

EDIT! EEK I LIED in the above post i said metric 6, i ment 8

A rhetorical question I assume?

I do like to help out when I can.

FYI,

I was in a local hardware store (one of the better ones) and they had metric all-thread studs M6 x 1.0 x 100mm in length for .89 each. Studs make it easier to hang the FMIC but certainly aren't required.

I was glad to have the studs as opposed to bolts due to the number of times I took the FMIC on and off to check clearances as I was moving the power steering cooling loop etc.

Hope the install goes well this weekend Mike.
