#9485, "Radar Detectors.. opinions?"

Hey every one. First of all let me say being only 17(18 in jan. yeah baby) I admire alot of you guys. I hope to be boosting sometime soon and always look up things on this board..yeah I know I should go for therapy emoji . So here's the '?'.... Are the Cobra ESD series radar detectors good? Im thinking of getting the ESD-9850 (might as well get all the bells and such..). I was wondering if any of your Radar detectors actually paid off? any interesting facts are welcomed. I myslef am fed up of cops harrasing me and such... so was wondering if this would be a good investment?

Yeah any good radar dectector will work for you, but i guess the real expensive ones aren't worth the cash. 150 for one is all i would pay, and mine now, saved me at times. But to tell the truth, my OWN EYES saves me more than any detector. Be very alert to speed traps and the like, saves me more than anything. With all the lasar and instant on radar out there, the only warning you get is the second the cops get you!! But i must say its good insurance, but if you get pulled over and they see it on you shield, then say good-bye to weeseling out of the ticket! I don't really speed much in my town(too many cops wit nuttin to do), so i am really careful where i let it go. Keep your eyes peeled and be alert, when you are letin it go! emoji

I agree. You can get a good radar detector under $150. I got a lame brand Wal-Mart special. $100. Has all the typical bells and whistles, non-annoying sound, and even a compass. It saved my ass like 4 times in one day a few weeks back. Gotta love 'em.

I would NEVER buy one for 150 or less. Pay 200 or more for a REALLY good one that actually works. I had (or still have but never use) a typical radar detector and it has way too many false alarms to make it worth it. It's really annoying...there are tests showing how the Valentine One and the expensive Escort Solo and a few others are REALLY good, a lot better than the cheap ones...there is this one really good web site with a review of a LOT of models...anyone remember what it is?

Honestly a radar det. will only work if the cop has his radar on when your in range. If he has the toggle it aint worth a damm.. case in point was when I was livin in cali about 1 1/2 yr ago I was heading to Beale AFB in N. cali doing about 90 in a 55 when all of a sudden my radar goes full blast and sure enough just up the road was a CHP. Just to make it short he had the toggel on his radar and when your in range all he has to do is flip the switch and your busted. Rollin around town -- that;s when a radar will warn you cause most cops won't play with the toggle especially if your near a big city.. It can be good local but don't push it on the highway!!
