what paint did you use to do that? i've been thinking about painting the headliner but i couldnt find what paint to use and what paint to use on the plastic pieces.

99 Eclipse GST, Bullseye v-trim turbo, p&p 1g head, apexi fmic, hard ic piping, megan sway bars, act2100, autometer gauges, rs limited wheels, safc2... and more

my car had a black dash and all tan interior , If I cant find a black headliner in the junk yard soon I'll pull mine out and dye it (along with the carpet)

I've already pulled and painted the glovebox area and the part under the seats, I used to have half my door skins painted and it looks great, till I let my now ex-fiancee's bother "help" with the touch up job... he didnt tape it off propperly and it looks like dogshit (so dont laugh at the bad overspray/shotty line in the pic below)

oh yeah, I used Duplicor cause Krylon Fusion SUCKS, this is what the interior will look like in 2 months inf you use Krylon:

Agreed Krylon Fusion does suck. I too started to paint/exchange parts to black. And if you put like some nice white bulbs in that black dome light it good.

No such thing. The 99 GST I pulled my black interior from had grey carpet and grey headliner. Same thing with the OZ editions and GSX's.

You're going to have to just recover the headliner...or dye it.

yup, no such thing as black. i dyed mine and its ok but the fabric (or maybe it was the glue) dosent seem to like the dye i used...it crinkles when its cool out. it was never a permanent solution anyhow. the best solution is to recover it with an actual black headliner material which ill be doing shortly.

ok so that write-up is GHETTO.. heres the way we do it at work...

If your headliner is sagging or falling, peel it up and check the foam left behind. If it can be rubbed off by simply pressing your finger into it and rubbing clean it all off down to the cardboard/fiberglass shell.

If the material comes off and the foam seems to have a good grip on the board, you can leave it on, it keeps a smooth board to glue on and you don't see all the imperfections in the board through the new material like you will by cleaning it completley (not EXTREMLY noticable but you can see them if you know what your looking for)

If your existing headliner is fine and your just looking to change colors once you pull it down glue straight over the old material, use a contact cement, usually sprayed through a paint gun, the 3m shit will not last. Some of you may have luck with it but this contact cement will dry in seconds and WILL not come up without force. Make sure you spray both the board, and the material, let it sit till its just barley dry to the touch and stick it together. Rub it down as you go, start from the middle and work your way out. Its easier to do it one half at a time, starting from the middle and work your way either front or back, dont recomend side to side. Once it is all laid down and all the wrinkles are pulled out, rub it down good, and you should be ready to put it up. If you used the correct glue you should be able to do this as soon as your finished.

Once your done glueing the front flip it over and roll your edges, this will keep it from peeling up from the weatherstrips rubbing, and wind blowing, and give a better edge to it esp. the front where there is no molding.

Cut each hole as just a slit, and the large holes as an X. This keeps you from cutting it short. And having a bare edge by the time pieces.

There is no need to let it dry overnight if you use the correct material, believe what you want but i've done hundreds of these things, they have never come back to my shop because of them falling. When putting the visors and anything with screws back up make sure not to catch the material as it will pull it loose from its foam backing, and will speed the process of it falling.

VISORS:

Also for those of you interested in doing your visors, the ones in our car are fairly simple. Pull off the old material. When you do this you will notice its tucked on the edges. Well it goes back on the same way. Tuck one side in, stretch it around and tuck the other side tight. The "hook" for the visor clips can actually be covered over and they will still work, or you can trim them out, but its hard to make them look good since the material is quite thicker than the gaps.I suggest using a putty knife, or carpet tucking took to push the material into the edges. Its easier just to eliminate your visor mirrors than to try to get them out without breaking them. The homelink is simple to get in and out.

Be sure when you snap the visors back together that you dont push on the mirror. I made that mistake and cracked both my mirrors. Also on the headliner, I put an inch of foam and made the diamond shape in the headliner. Gave it a unique look. Everyone seemed to like it. Ill see if I have a pic of it.

That looks good man. But it just made me realize, I don't think I have a dome light, my lights are in my rear view mirror. I have sunroof controls there.

Yea. Base models and the RS had no sunroof and therefore had that domelight.

Question: When painting the interior, did you use adhesion promoter?
