#92883, "how to make my headlights clear again (Need tips)"

So my headlights are needing some clearing (from a 98 eclipse) and I've been wanting to wetsand my headlights. The problem? What the hell is wetsanding?

From ez's thread, he used
400->1500->2000 wet sand paper. Does regularly sandpaper work or does it have to be wet sand paper? What are the tools I need to wet sand my headlights?

New Car:
2004 350z base, Nismo CAI, pioneer avic-n1 (dvd, cd, navi)

Old Car:
1998 GS with hrc stage 2, HID 6000k conversion kit, AEM UEGO wideband, sfmu, ml, prokits, Greddy warning gauges: egt, boost gauge, and oil pressure, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, groundwires, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler
Boostin since Aug 03.

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

you just have to get the sand paper wet, and wet the surface your going to sand, and keep it really wet.

I was walkin around walmart today and noticed that in the car car section they have this new box for Headlight and taillight refinishing. it comes with a bit that you attach to a drill and different rated pads and a custom polish that you use with it. I haven't heard of anyone using it because it is pretty new but it looks like all the same stuff but comes in a set for like 10$

I thought that 97,98(any after restyle) where safe form head light hazing. Am I wrong?

Yes, I just use a hose and keep everything wet as I'm doing the 1500 and 2000 sanding. You don't need any tools but your hands.

For the polishing, it would be awesome to have one of those electric buffing devices, but again I just used my hands and a buffing/polishing pad.

Realize you only really need to sand if your headlights are pitted and worn like mine were. You might be able to get away with just using some of mcquires plastic polish alone. the condition of my headlights needed a more intensive intervention, he he

And in answer to the last thread, 97-99 are not immune to hazing. Our headlights do not have the same problem as the earlier version of the headlights though ->Those early headlights are coated with a thin layer of material that yellows as it ages. If you remove that material, it will never yellow again. the hazing of the clear plastic is a different issue altogether, and both the early and late versions of the headlights have that problem. I've noticed the same problem on most dodge/chrylser headlights over time.

if you have a lot of patience and youre good with working with your hands, wetsand it. if you're like some ppl on here and cant wait for 5 seconds then get headlights from a junk yard or somethin

I just wish my car was as fast as it was loud. people tell me i should use my sub to push it, it might go faster.

if you go the route ^^^ said, those will eventually haze aswell, if they arent already, so i wouldnt recomment that, ull just be stuck with two pairs of hazed headlights. you can tell im being honest here since i could have offered to sell you a set emoji

LOL yeah the keeping it wet solution was a thought that crossed my mind but it seemed to simple. Ackrom's razor right?

Well I have my original headlights with a deep scratch from when I rubbed up against a pole. So I figure deep sanding it might salvage the mess.

For some reason, these headlights I bought seemed to be really foggy. They're from a 99 eclipse too!
