#9197, "cf or fiberglass hood..."

LAST EDITED ON 07-Oct-01 AT 11:53 AM (PST)

so yeh, anyone have any ideas? i've wanted a carbon fiber hood for a while now and since the latest development (ie those cheap ass kits and hoods a few posts ago) i think i might get one.

BUT i don't know which. i love the carbon fiber, but someone said the fiberglass ones are actually lighter? (my rationalizing this is that i race a lot so anything lighter is better) but dude, A CARBON FIBER HOOD would be awesome. i've got a white car. do the fiberglass ones come painted? if not then my mind is already made up (cf all the way).

i keep picturing that one purple eclipse in that one superstreet (or import tuner, i don't remember) w/ the vented hood. good stuff to say the least. i'm stuck in the middle here. i have seen vented carbon fiber hoods, but i'm assuming those would be a lot more expensive than either one and the whole point is to save some $$ here.

i also have to take into consideration that i want a turbo. will a kit (PROBABLY hrc, unless some kickass star group buy's come along) fit w/ a CF hood? a fiberglass hood?

any input would be appreciated, get back to me.

Hop on our group buy. $450 shipped. Most peeps do not paint cf hoods. CF is way stronger than fiberglass. Plus its about as light.

i wasn't talking about painting the cfhood
i meant did the fiberglass ones' come painted or if i had to get it painted when i got it.

can you give me all the specifics about the group buy? and that guy a few posts ago listed the cf hood for 380+shipping. i'm in FL so thats going to be a bitch, but is it 45o+shipping? or 45o flat. if not why are they that much more, for a group buy i mean. i've been looking and i've seen hoods for like 550 for our cars. either way its cheaper but i'm just curious.

actually i just saw it in u're website (*and just noticed that you said 450 shipped in your last post). answers one question. so yeh, the group buy would be cheaper (b/c w/ that other post i'm in zone 6, so its 160 to ship the 380 hood).

get back to me w/ more info and i'll probably get in on it. how many more people are needed?

6 people are needed but I think we are actually close to getting that many. Ray (PuRe RaGe) has one of the cf hoods on his car now...He lives in Miami so if you live near maybe you can check it out. If you want some pictures of the hood on his car I check back to www.extreme420a.com later tonight and I will have some new pics of his car with the motor in, new motor mounts(very nice and we will start selling these soon!) and a few shots of his new front end. If you have any more questions email Ray at purerage@extreme420a.com because he knows more about the quality of the hood than I do. From what I have seen it is of very very good quality.

A CF hood prolly weighs like 9 lbs more than fiberglass. 9 LBS won't make or break you. Well, it shouldn't. If you r that worried about it, go on a diet and lose 9 LBS and you will make up for it. emoji CF looks sweet.
