#91706, "Converting a Spyder to a Talon"

Ok, I'm bored and want to investigate a new project. Taking a GST Spyder and converting the back end to a talon. Is this even possible? Anyone have any info on this. . .I think it would be an awesome thing, seeing a talon with a drop top. . .any intelligent input would be nice. Thanks

It is def possible since the Talons are convered to eclipse's all the time. You would need to change the lower bracket, side brackets and tail lights, obviously bumper. The center bracket would need to be spot drilled/removed and rewelded though if memory serves me correctly. The eclipse center bracket is higher than the talon one.

Front end would be slightly easier since there is less to deal with. Depending on the year of spyder you might have to convert the headlights too since the Talon used the 95/96 throughout all years.

Interresting idea.

You would have the 2nd DSM I know of to have this conversion if you did it. The guy (car above) sold it and its whereabouts are unknown. Keep us posted.

That has to be the worse choice for a background I've ever seen.

Serious though... A graveyard for a background. Do it right there are plenty of spots to get creative and take pictures. But I must say I love the talon look on the spyder. Typically I don't care for the look of the talon but as a spyder I think it looks bad ass and something that should have been done from the factory.

I think it is more a combination on the wing and roll bar. I never really though the spider looked all that nice with the top down because of that. The roll bar pulls the lines of the car up, while the spoiler flows with the line usually created at the A to C pillars.

Other than that, some very high quality work. Maybe a more agressive wing would correct that problem. Anything really to draw the eye down and away from the roll bar in that case would do as well.

Turbo Wing

NOt done too often, i've seen pictures of one car on tuners that had it and for the first time I saw one driving around the other day and it looks real nice, not sure how it would look with the talon conversion, but i guarantee it would be original

Thats the 2gb Talon bumper. They only had them on the 97 and 98 cars. Good luck finding one though. You have to pay out the a$$ for them. $200 is a good deal on one. I'd know cuz I've been trying to find one for the past year.

I've recently heard that they don't make these front bumpers anymore, even from the factory, so I don't know how they would expect anyone to repair a 2GB Talon involved in a frontal collision.

In any case, the white car above is the second conversion I have seen and it's something which I have always wanted to do.

Whoever told you that is incorrect DR1665. Federal law requires manufacturers to continue making parts for 10 years minimum after a vehicle is produced.

I lucked out though and have a Talon 2gb bumper sitting in my backyard. I paid $51 for it at a local junkyard. Now I just need to clean it up and get it on the TSi.

Its been 10 years, last production year of the talon was 97 (when they made the 98s). Also federal law requires that the manufactures either produce a minimum number of parts or contract a company to do it for them. I don't know the specific number, but its not very much to meet the minimums.

i might be able to help someone with that, my timing belt broke on my '95 Esi. So i bought the two idler pulleys, and the belt. well i got it times and everything back on and it would turn over but wouldn't start. so i took it to the local chrysler dealership. after two weeks, they tell me the head is crap and they would advise not doing the work involved to fixing it cause there might be something wrong with the bottom end. but to fix it they quoted me at least $1500. That's about $800 for a remanufactured head and aobut $600 in labor involved. So i'm trying to decide what to do about the situation. If i don't have it fixed, i've got the tail lights, and the rear bumper. front bumper is no good owner before me likes running on the curb.

you can buy an engine for less then that......

in fact in a few weeks my stock engine will be up for sale, I'm FINALLY dropping the built engine in.

Back to topic, I think the Talon Spyder is the sex.If I ever got my hands on a spyder Id definitely do the conversion.

that's what i fugured, i could probaably do some performance pieces for that price. but anyhow i got the car back home now, my dad talked to the mechanic at the chrysler dealership, and he said all he did was a compression check on the car. (without checking the timing first) so about 3 weeks with it sitting on the car lot. and all they did to it was a compression check. the service manager WILL be getting a phone call. but now i'm gonna check the timing again, and go from there.
