#91625, "anyone get the rear glass out without shattering it?"

I had to replace my hatch and I want to put my old tinted glass back in. I called a few glass shops and they all say if they take it out it will break it. So I am trying to figure out if they are lazy or if it really is that hard...

I think their not lazy, they just want to over charge you for a new one.

I work at a glass/interior shop. The reason behind it is because there is a 50/50 chance it will break coming out and they can't be responsible if it breaks. We do the same with windsheilds, however YES it can be taken out without breaking/cracking it. Call some local shops and I'm sure you can find one who WILL do it but won't hold themselves responsible if it breaks. Its a chance you will just have to take, no one will gaurantee it not to break, because it doesn't take much to crack it, however if you take your time and do it right, yes you can get it out.

It would prolly be cheaper for you to just tint the new one than try and swap the glass with one thats already tinted.

I have had mine lifted and resealed with new moulding when i painted the car. Its about liability, if you search around you will find a glass shop willing to do the work. It cost me 140 in labor for the back window only and 25.00 for the moulding.

^^^ That's exactly the issue I need the one on the car re-sealed anyway, as it's leaking right now. Plus the defroster on the new one is busted, so I just figured it would be easier to just swap the 2 and be done with it...

My glass guy was able to take my back glass out without it breaking but he did say there was the chance that it would break.
