I'd like to move my license plate into the open mouth area on the front of my 97 talon, anyone familiar with ny state laws on license plates? I believe it jsut has to be visible, and with this it isn't 100% visible unless you look at it dead on. Anybody tried this? Any negative results from cops?
Thanks folks.

NYS Traffic law states that you must display 2 number tags on your vehicle at all times, one in the front, one in the rear. How and where it's mounted is usually not as much of an issue as long as it is visible. I ran around with my front in the windshield cuz I had removed my front plate bracket when the car was registered in GA (GA requires only a rear).

Suggestion fab up a bracket to push the plate foward slightly so it's visible from more than just dead on, but you can put it anywhere that it's visible on the front. Oh yeah it's required to have 2 plates for NYS inspection also. Good luck and send pics when you get this mounted it may give other members ideas of how to mount their required front plates.

I wasn't trying to tell him to put it in the windshield just that I had done it temporarily cuz i no longer had the front bracket. I was saying it had to be mounted on the front somewhere visible. I am a licensed NYS inspector, I know the state laws reguarding display of tags, registration sticker, and inspection sticker.

I had it in the windshield for a while (in Missouri) and got stopped because of it. The cop said they do not tollerate plates IN the car due to the danger in case of an accident and it comes flying at you. Just something to think about...

that's one of the dumbest things i've ever heard, anything in your car not bolted down can fly up and hit you. Now if he said...its because we can't read it because there is a glare being that its behind the glass....that's a different story

I've known a few people on other forums from new york, who get that grille mesh stuff and they put the plate behind it. It helps conceal it a little bit, but it's still on the front bumper.

Stranger things have happened. I'd rather get hit by a styrofoam cup than a license plate.

Generally, if you get pulled over because of a license plate violation, you get a fix-it ticket at the most. So, put it where you want it and see what happens. If you get pulled over, you can always put it in the "right place".

Small amount of body filler (just get a tiny can of bondo).
1) Take some 100 grit sand paper and smooth out the ridges around the holes (this will also rough up the polyurathane bumper cover so the filler will adhere to it).
2) Mix the filler as per instructions.
3) Use spreaders to fill in the holes and smooth it out as much as you can. allow to harden.
4) Sand the filler smooth this time use 150 grit and go slowly using a sanding block (you can get one at home depot for like a doller) to keep from making grooves.
Repeat steps 2-4 until the holes are no longer visable.
5) Apply one more THIN coat of filler and sand with 220 grit and the sanding block this should give you a very smooth surface with no imperfections.
6) Tape off the surrounding area so you don't over spray everything.
7) Scuff any paint that you did not tape off around the repair with the same 220 grit.
8) Spray bomb Primer and scuff lightly with 220.
9) Spray bomb with that color match white paint you can get from Autozone.

**NOTE** This is a temp fix suggestion that I personally have used on several daily beaters and it turned out quite well. If you want it perfect have a local paint shop prime and paint the whole bumper cover.
