The front of my headliner cloth is starting to peel off ...I was reading the archives and got the 3M spray adhesive. I was wondering since its just the front thats starting to peel if it'll be easier to fix it by removing the whole headliner foam out of the car and gluing the edge or while its in place just spray on the front edge thats coming off and glue it back on wihtout removing the actual foam form the car. I know there was a writeup on replacing your headliner but the links no longer work,then again its not too bad that I think id have to replace the whole thing i think i can just glue the edge thats peeling off right?
I've never removed the headliner so I'm not sure if it's just a matter of removing the inside door rubber molding?..how about 4 corners where the vinyl panels are do i have to remove those? or will it just come off once i remove the door molding? I have a sunroof so that mold looks tricky if i was to replace the whole cloth.....anyways sorry lots of q's even if somoene just has an updated link to the "how-to" i'd appreciate it.

a lot of the writeups were for changing the color of your headling by gluing a thin sheet of material over the existing one. this does not work if your stock headliner has already started to sag. the headliner sags b/c the foam backing has degraded into dust. if you spray more glue all you're doing is gluing the material to dust. then the dust falls off and you're back to square one. when my car did this i removed the entire headliner piece and removed the headliner material and cleaned off all the remaining 'foam'. i then replaced it with new headliner material (headliner material is cloth with a foam backing) using the 3m spray stuff. it's been fine for the past couple years since.

if you wanna fix it put in the time to do it right. take out the headliner and pul off ALL of the old material. clean the carboard backing thing that it was glued to until all the foam dust is gone. then use a shitload of that 3m headliner glue stuff to glue the new material on. you'll need to order 2yd's btw as 1yd is just a tad short and they usually only sell the material in single yard lengths.

Yes you have to pull the headliner backer out and then remove ALL the old material/foam to do it right. Small pain in the arse! I have mine out currently as a few others can attest to. I am glassing mione and it is a slow process but i want it to look good so am taking my time. Not to mention having to work as well. Thankfully I have two other cars to drive!

ive had to replace it once...its not too hard to get out...but getting it back in...oh god...i broke some plastic clips in the process...its a bitch to get back in. But it will look a whole lot better once youre done..just remove the 4 plastic panels in from and back...i left the rubber on...because the rubber will hold it up once u get it put back up, so you wont have to hold it up and try and snap in the pieces...good luck, its a pain in the ass.

My headliner was peeling right above the front window. I use to just push it back in, but as soon as wind hit it it would come back out. finally got some glue spray from home depot and used that. I didn't take off the headliner, but it wasn't that hard with it on. I just used a rubber spatula to smooth it over the top. No problems yet.

Jo Ann Fabrics actually sells a headliner material that works great. I bought some in black and its still holding strong after 4 years now!

Thats pretty much my case...when i open the windows and wind hits it, then it drops but otherwise i push it back up and it stays there...I might try what you did since from the sounds of it its a pain to take the whole thing out/put it back in.

i do this shit for a living trust me dont try to glue it as if its starting to come down the rest will follow soon enough. Peel off as much as you can and get an abrasive brush and get all the foam and such off the board, we use a glue through a paint gun but you can buy an aerosol that will last if you do it right, let it dry almost all the way before sticking it and just smooth it with your hand, roll it around the edges and trim. To get it out you should only have to take down the pillars, mouldings, handle, and lights/sunroof controls and rear molding, the sides can be unclipped enough to squeeze it through, dont be afraid to bend the board a little either as they are pretty flexible. When you cutout holes for the visors and such just put small slits, if you cut the full hole sometimes it will come up short and you will have ugly gaps

Yes, he is right...use small slits and the screws will get through...i used just a tiny pinhole...worked fine...and if you try and glue it it might hold maybe a day or 2...but then itll all come down again...i tried to glue it..i bought some rubber adhesive i kept spraying until i got sick of it....i would get someone else to glue on the new fabric and you can mount it back in yourself.

EXACT same thing happened to me. I just bought some headliner material in black and redid the whole thing. And YES, remove all of the old material first.
