#87666, "blue ion projectors and HID's?"

Does anyone know what the light output is like if you have one've those projectors with a blue lense and HID's? I know with halogens they give a yellowish output. Just wondering if HID's are different because of the color temp and whatnot.

In my honest opinion I would not bother with that blue Ion crap. And truthfully dude, if you have the money you can do a retrofit that is way better for alot less than a price of a decent kit. A good HID kit will cost you $300+ $150 for ebay projectors. But.. if you retrofit some nice projectors from another vehicle with some oem balasts and bulbs your looking at like $350-$400 depending on the stuff you use. But for the little money you save and the trouble in doing it, it is so much more worth it. I wish I would have retro'd the first time. And I will be more than happy to assist you if you would like to go this route.

ya i know i've read up on you and AZdave's retros. pretty awesome stuff. the ion thing is just something i was wondering about. i'm still undecided on what i wanna do. i'm definately converting to 97+ so i'll prolly be buying a set of projectors either way. i'm still undecided on whether i wanna do a conversion or just buy a kit for the projectors.

so yea, anyone with blue ions and HID's know?

I did not test with the blue ion lens as I had the clear glass lens however, I did test a set of blue ion projector fogs (Pilot Automotive) with an HID light and the light output was still yellow, just like with halogens.

If you just use an HID kit (H1 bulb?) in the projector as you have them pictured, it will be okay but the light will not have a smooth, even cut-off line and there will probably be some glare to oncoming traffic.

I was not happy with that and a week later I took the lights back out and retro-fitted in a pair of E55 Bi-xenons. It is a lot more work but they results are top notch.

I would not mess with putting an HID kit in them. If you want HID I would put an OEM projector in the original housing or an aftermarket housing.
