ok my headlights are doing this weird thing...when they are on the passenger side is lit up normal on the low beam and the high beam is barely lit up....the passenger side low beam is barely on and the passenger high beam is barely on just like the driver side. but when i turn on the high beams, all the lights on the driver side go out and just the passenger high beam turns on. i just replaced the driver high beam and it didnt fix it and i switched out the other bulbs and it still does the same thing. any ideas?

Maybe you have a short in the wiring?

Check that the headlamps are getting the proper ground connections. Check in the sockets as well as were the wires ground just inside the fender lips. A bad ground will allow current to flow in unwanted directions looking for a ground elsewhere. That will lead to bulbs burning at half brightness since the voltage is running through two filaments in series by accident. When you switch on the brights it can all change around.

i havent had any more time to look at it again, but for what its worth, the high beam indicator in the dash is half way lit when it does this. also, sometimes i can turn the high beams on and then back off and the lights will be back to normal and sometimes they wont. should i check for problems on the drivers side only?

This is pretty tough to diagnose without being there to check things with a meter.

Do you have a wiring schematic? Has the wiring been altered by you or previous owners?

If it's all still stock then the low beams and high beams all get power from the same relay. That means the low beams should both be on if that relay is good, if the bulb sockets are not corroded and if the ground wires are making good contact. The high beams will also be seeing 12VDC at the sockets but they won't turn on until the switch inside the steering column provides a ground path. I don't know what else to tell you. You need to get a schematic and step through the wires one at a time. I still suspect a bad ground or a faulty socket that is providing an incorrect path for the current to flow.

well i took the headlight assemblies out today and switch the drivers with the passengers. the passenger side worked like it was supposed to on the drivers side. so im guessing the problem is the wiring in the drivers side headlight assembly. thats all i can think of
