#8714, "Value of LED lights"

Ok i know theyre not worth much but at work (McDonalds) we are giving away Monster Inc. toys and one of them has an LED light on it. The light is pretty bright. I was wondering if I should take any of these home because I remember an old post that was talking about taking out LEDs from your car alarm to change the colors of light bulbs. Anyways just wondering if its worth it to take all these toys home.

DEI alarms only come with red LED's. But, those are perfect if you want red illumination. Just make sure you put a 330 ohm resistor inline when you hook them up.

If you want other colors, you have to search. Go to www.varad.com and contact them to see if they can direct you to a retailer of their LED's close to you.

I don't think leds will work so well. Firstly, you will loose the variable brightness, and secondly they wont refract correctly since the light only shines out of the front and not around the whole bulb.

well, I only have red....

blue are a hot item, i've got em, but lots of people around here want em.

what I usually do is wire 6 of em in series to run off a 12v source. if you wire em up right, I'm pretty sure you can change the brightness, because we hooked a couple up to a radio's speaker outputs to see what they'd do, and they will put out a variable output. you'd just have to make sure you wire em up right in reference to your cluster's voltage...
