#86963, "preventing main headlights to flash when using hi-beam flash... For HID Systems"

Since I have HIDs, I don't want the low beam lights, which are HID equiped, to come on when I use the hi-beams. Anyway to rewire it under the hood that's easy? Thoughs and theories are welcome in how to do this since I like beaming my hi-beams when I pass trucks or crappy drivers.

New Car:
2004 350z base, Nismo CAI, pioneer avic-n1 (dvd, cd, navi)

Old Car:
1998 GS with hrc stage 2, HID 6000k conversion kit, AEM UEGO wideband, sfmu, ml, prokits, Greddy warning gauges: egt, boost gauge, and oil pressure, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, groundwires, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler
Boostin since Aug 03.

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

Check with azdave. He's got the E55 dual beam HID projector retrofit completed on his car. When he hits the brights, the shield over the top half of the projector raises, sending his HID beam nearly 50ft up at 30yds distance. His regular high beams still activate, but if there's anyone here who would have input for you on this sort of thing, it's Dave. emoji

If you use a relay so that when it is triggered it opens the circuit rather than closing it (I believe your 12v output goes on 85b) then put it in line with your low beams and running the trigger off the high beams then it should cut power to the lows when the highs come on.

I'm sure what you are meaning to say is that you don't want the HID low-beams to turn on with your hi-beams when you are daytime driving (headlights normally off) and you wish to flash someone to pass.

Currently, that's the way 2Gs are wired. That's hard on HID systems when you cause them to start the bulbs 2-3 times quickly like when you flash your brights.

If you drive with your HIDs on during the daytime using them as Daytime Running Lights (DRL), then this isn't an issue. The HIDs are already on and all that will happen is your hi-beams will flash and if you have factory fogs, they turn off (I think).

For me, the easiest solution was to wire the HIDs to be on anytime the engine was running (DRL). That way it didn't matter if I flashed the hi-beams since the HIDs were already on.

I thought there might be a simple fix for this but it will take some re-wire under the hood and the addition of a fuse or relay depending on how you want to rig it.

The headlight relay under the hood controls power to the low and high beams. When that relay is active, the low-beams get 12 volts and the hi-beams also get 12 volts except that the hi-beams don't yet see a gound to let them turn on. Once the column switch is pulled the hi-beams see ground and also turn on.

That is the problem. The hi-beams can never receive power unless the headlight relay is on. If the headlight realy is on, the HIDs are on.

A way for you to fix this is to supply power separately to the hi-beams (a relay and be sure to fuse the supply main) and then cut the ground wire inside the steering column on the hi-beam switch so when you flash your lights, the headlight relay does not turn on.

This is probably more than you want to do.

Like I said before, I found it easier to rig the headlights to stay on as daytime running lights and I like the safety of having the HIDs on anyway.

I'll post more info if you need it. Let me know.

maybe use the ground signal for the high beams to trigger a relay which bypasses the power to the lows? emoji

the downside to this is that if/when you drive at nite with your high beams your low beams will be off. you will only be able to have one on at a time. also idk if the reaction time of the relay would come into play at all. if the lows are powered for a split second before being bypassed whne flashing it'd defeat the whole purpose of the system.
