I had 9006 HID kits in my stock housings and had to open them up and paint black dabs of paint here and there on the reflectors in order to stop unwanted stray light from shooting up and out and possibly annoying oncoming vehicles.

They looked completely stock except when they were lit up. They were very bright but had a lot of hot spots below the cut-off. The light was not very evenly distributed below the cut-off.

I like the look of the stock lamps too but after taking another rock in the passenger side I just couldn't find a used original factory housing that wasn't beat to death. New one's cost too much.

I bought a "factory" housing off of eBay that looked just like a factory Mitsu part but ended up being a non-Mitsu knock-off and the beam pattern out of it was terrible.

You know the end of the story. After getting some ebay projectors I cut them open and installed some true Hella E-55 Bi-Xenon projectors from a Mercedes (very difficult) and now I'm spoiled and will never be happy with less.

Pictures?
I don't have any pics of the beam pattern. Wasn't too proud to show it off.

Slightly modified factory housing with HID kit.

My latest lights...

When you say you painted them, which one's did you paint and how did you figure out which areas to paint?

It's gonna sound stupid but I installed the bulbs with the housing mounted in the car and with the clear lens off the housing. I then parked in my garage with the light beam shining on the door. I then looked for any significant stray light beams that were above the cut-off line.

Here's the stupid part. So as not to blind myself, I wore a welder's helmet and then proceeded to dab tiny dots of flat black paint on the reflector in any areas that were the culprit of stray light beams, generally on corners or where two facets intersected. You can't fix them all but I got the worst ones that would have been lighting up the trees. The tiny spots of black on the reflectors were noticable by me but no one else ever saw them or said anything so it doesn't look as bad as it sounds.

The stray light beams that you are looking to eliminate have always been there with the halogen bulbs but when you put in an HID bulb at three times the ouput they become a bigger problem.

Spare 9006 HID bulbs to sell?
I'm keeping them for another project, sorry.
