My car has been in the body shop getting some new paint and some minor modifications done to it.
Well, its been a month and 2 weeks as of last friday. On friday I called them because i was supposed to pick up the car. Apparently they had a fish eye in the clear (or so they thought), so the buffer tried buffing it out but of course the fish eye was in the paint, not the clear.
Long story short, they have to repaint the damn roof of the car because of it. Now I have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks for the damn car.

Consider this, Mine has been the body shop getting the sides and the rear all epoxied on and a new coat of paint. It's been there for going on 8 months!!! He has called me 9 times and told me it would be done on the next monday and I'd get all stoked and nothing, not even a call!! Well he called again yesterday and I told him the police were on the way over, which they were (my friend in the sheriff's dept) and today got another call that it would be done this saturday or sunday. It sucks to pay good money for such piss poor service

When body shops take on your custom paint..or full color changes..they look at the car as if it was their own and it would truely take like 2 weeks if they worked on it. That is not the case, their interest is in insurance work. It is easy for them and mostly profit. As far as this topic about fish eyes in the roof...it sounds like there was something on the surface, possibly bad preping before painting. Make sure what ever it is, is covered over a period of time. Who knows what could go wrong.

a fisheye is caused by a small comtamination on the body surface or contamination in the air. Fumes mixing in the spray can cause fisheyes as well. Since most shops now use a bake booth with an air purifier its not usually air contamination. I worked in a bodyshop and got to see many of the secrets. People who spray in thier garage with plastic to protect from dust can easily end up with fisheyes caused by air contamination. Propane or kerosene burners are a usual cause. There are additives that can be added to avoid fisheyes in the above scenario but there is no guarentee.
Any shop that think they can buff a fisheye needs a psychiatrist. I have never ever seen a fisheye sanded out and buffed......the fisheye itself is a low spot in the paint caused by leaching effect. basically it cant be buffed.
James...3 weeks is a joke and you are getting fucked, plain and simple. It takes 24hours to fix it right and give it back to you, trust me i know.
To see what a fisheye is, take a tiny bit of babyoil nd dab it on your finger. Now wipe it off gently. take that same finger and touch a piece of metal and spray it with an aerosol spray paint. if you get a round looking bullseye....that is a large fisheye.

He's right, If we had to, and the car needed to be totally repainted: It would be 2 days max...1 day to sand then paint and the next day to clean it up/install mirrors and trim and deliver. Unless this shop is doing show quality paint jobs, and recommends 2 weeks curing time before the first wetsand, buff and wash then I could understand. Your car is probably sitting in the corner collecting dust while the shop is doing quick money insurance related work. You need to find a new bodyshop, or put your foot up their asses.

Exactly, trust me you don't try to rush them. If it takes a while, it takes a while. If you rush them, you'll get a have assed result which you'll just want to get repainted later on.

Contract, Contract, Contract Go to whatever body shop you decide to go with and ask them how long it will take. This should not take more then a week in my opinion close to 2 at the most. They say 7 days say put it in writing, agree upon circumstances, have them sign it, and hold them to it.

That would work if you just wanted a paint job but custom work takes what it takes period!unfortunatly here it is today!
