i was tired of having my hatch fall on my head an stuff so i sucked it up and ordered a new set of struts from mach V for $76 + $9 ground shipping. i installed them the other night and couldn't be happier. it's actually hard to close the hatch now. you do need to reuse the bolts attaching the struts to the body of the car (the ones that attach the strut to the hatch is part of the strut itself) so try not to fuck them up too bad if they're a bit rusted.
i'm currently wingless but i can't see the hatch having any trouble staying open with ANY type of stock or aftermarket wing. i have a WW commando wing that i need to install and know about how heavy it feels. based on the amount of pressure i hafta put on the hatch to close it, i'm quite sure it would be able to stay open with the wing. i think most people have problems because their struts are old or getting there.
btw the struts are OEM. but i'm pretty sure it would cost a lot more going through a dealer.

im thinking about biting the bullet and doing this. when its warm...sometimes it will stay up. but if you drop something or jar the car...it will come crashing down. pisses me off all to hell. in the winter time...forget about it. 80 bux dosent sound too bad. im sure youll get charged that much for just one at satan.

You could always go to a junk yard and pick some up. Ask djtrickee about the ones I shipped him, they work just fine. May have to clean them up some but $5 is a whole lot better than $80

at no fault of Aarons, they ended up being just as bad as the originals i replaced. Buying new ones seems like the only option at this point. But its cash that i could be spending on engine goodies so...

yea, unless they've been sitting on a car with the hatch open or something i doubt they'd be much better. once the struts are on the car they spend most of their life compressed. this wears them out.
