All right, I've spent hours using the search and still have not been able to find an answer to my question. I've had my body kit sitting in my shed for months now until I got enough time to install and paint them. Just started about a week ago and the effing weather has sucked and since I dont have a garage have been sidelined because of it. I have the front/rear bumpers, side skirts, and fenders off. Only thing I have installed yet is the fenders. The front and rear bumpers have been a pain in the royal a$$. I can't fit the new ones on with those black plastic (or whatever material it is) on. Not sure if they were just for support of the stock urethane bumpers or if they or a safety thing. My question is will removing these things be a safety issue, I don't plan on the car being just for show so driveability is a concern. The kit I am trying to install is a fibeglass Bomex front and the rear is the Combat style. Does anyone know if removing these black "bumpers" will be a safety concern? Thanks in advance for the replies.

no its not harmful. they are just the plastic wheel wells. the keep rocks from flying back and smaking cars behind you really. your kit must fit really shitty since it doesnt line up with those black wheel well pieces. usually bomex shit fits pretty decent. for thr front, mostly everyones plastic pieces get fucked off anyway from their rims hitting it and melting them so to answer your question, yes you can take them off

Are you talking about the internal bumpers? If so, yes you have to remove them and yes it will be a safety issue (if you get rear-ended or rear end somebody). Ive installed a few kits and every single one Ive tried to put the black bumpers back on and they never fit.
Your call man, good luck. I feel your pain with this rain, lol. We're getting pounded here in PA aswell.

Yes these are what I am talking about. I tried taking the rear one off and modifying it so the bumper cover would fit, but didn't work, I had to take the whole thing off. You would think that with all the modifying that is done to these cars Mitsubishi(or chrysler or whoever owns the damn company now) would think about stuff like this and find a solution. Maybe make one that is not so damn big or get up the people who make the bodykits and collaborate. I'm sure they can think of something. For christ sakes we put a damn man on the moon like 40 years ago, but a caompany cant make a body kit that fits good.
Any ways I am just venting a bit, but thanks for the replies. I am new to the board and once I get the kit fitted I will be prepping for paint. Hope to get pics up soon after that.
