#82608, "Maaco Paintjobs anyone?"

can someone post pics of thier Maaco paint job? i think i'm just gonna go to them and have my car painted there. ive had my 99 bumpers sitting in my garage a long time, and my paint is all fucked up. they painted my hatch and spoiler 3 years ago, and the shit is in tip top shape to this day(see sig), so i says to myself ...if my spoiler/hatch is awesome to this day, might as well paint the whole car. I'm planning on getting their best paint job of course, which i believe will go for around 700, but just wanted to see someones paint job if available.

oh, and i'm going BLACK.

dont do it. several cars come through my emissions station and i see maaco paint jobs chipping, cracking, fading. not worth the headache over a $500 paint job.

I don't know if I would want them to do a color change for me. I know Powereclipse has had them do stuff for him but I don't know how it turned out because I have not seen his car for a while. It also depends on the location itself. The one you go to might have better employees than the one that works on the cars ^^^ sees. Good luck man.

spoiler is diff. its already prepped pretty much. a car, they have to prep. what they do is take a DA sander to the whole car and spray it. if there are swirl marks from the sander, they dont care, they just cake more primer on. dont do it. dont do it, dont do it! plus the use the absolute cheapest paint possible, and dont even tape off good.

How many people shoot paint? Maaco uses (usually) a S-W mid level type of paint called Dimension. It comes both in base/clear, muti stages for some colors, and a single stage. Maaco typically will not shoot a sealer or primer unless there is a real need to (fix with filler). Dimension is sensitive when laid over #400 sanded paint. Some of maaco's painters are the best at what they do... they paint more cars than most other painters do. My advice is to prep the car yourself, than pay more for them to prime/seal the whole car. Than paint it whatever color you want. I'd advise to use a base/clear factory pack color so you can get it matched if you get a scratch. Good luck with your paintjob search.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

I painted my car 5 total color changes. It's alot of work there is no cheap way. To paint all moldings should be removed, door handles, rear quarter glass, mirrors, bumpers and side skirts. The front and rear hatch window can remain if you use a special tape (wedge tape) this tape is about 10" wide and has a plastic wedge that goes in between molding and glass, it allows paint to get behind molding and impossible for paint to get on molding. depending on the painter jams can be done before hand or good painters will do them as they do the car. I think if you want a 500$ paint job. Go buy a decent paint gun and play with the thing a month learn how to use it. Painting is really a joke once you aquire a feel for it. My days of $12k color changes have ended since I've learn to paint. Laying base coat is easy, getting a feel for clear takes time but not really all that hard. In my opion I've seen macco paint jobs...yours would be just as good if you tried painting your car today w/o any knowledge.

If I had a garage I would have so started learning how to paint. But I di everything in my dusty drive way in a alley with tons of dirt. But anayways, I just prepped my car and did body work such as 99 conversion and a few other things. The guy spayed it for cost of paint + about $100 or $200 I think. His work is great, and since I didn't want a color change I did not want the door jambs etc re-done. Unless you need a whole shit load of body work, this guy does it around 500$ + paint. He quoted me $400 with my car before i decided to do a conversion. This is down in San Diego though. I'll get some more info for you guys though if you want.

^^^thats a hella good price for a paint job. I'm not worried about distance as long as its in SoCal. I live in the San Bernardino County in Fontana. my budget isnt really 500$, I would spend 1K, but i just wanna make sure the paint is nice. oh and I thought Maaco used Dupont paint? thats what they advertise from what i've seen? anyway, for the guy above, i would like to see some close up shots of your paint job.
