#82264, "Install stock sunroof on non sunroof RS"

I didnt really find a solid answer on this I wanna know if anyone had done this. The guy at the shop told me the best way to do it is to cut the whole roof off and swap it. I dont really wanna saw into the whole thing. Im thinking it could be done unless the stock one has a lip instead of just a hole. Shop guy said it wouldnt be a problem if its just a hole because he can make a precise cut. So anyway does anyone how a pick of thier roof with the headliner removed ? I found a whole roof kit I just wanna know what Im getting myself into. My other option is a moonroof but I think our cars look hot with a spoiler sunroof.

Well if your end up cutting the top off, you might aswell make the top like the Supras. That would look nice. Just use the hardware from a Del Soil. I think there called sport tops. I'd like to do this, but dont have the balls to cut my top off.

As for the the work to make a sunroof like that in it, you might aswell to a 4G swap too. I think it would just as much as a PITA!!

You can install a stock sunroof on a non-sunroofed car. The mounting points are there, you just have to run the wiring and what not. You can't however just make a targa top like a Supra. You need a ton of under car bracing because you lose your car's rigidity when you hack the top across the frame bracings. It's MUCH easier to put in a sunroof and a lot of guys have done it.

thats a good way to ruin a driver as well. even people with 12pt roll cages and lots of added structural support are having chassis flex problems. you can just cut a section of the roof completely out with no consequence. most people who do a targa top eclipse do it for their show cars only...cuz a track car wont hardly hold up to that. plus you make your eclipse even heavier with all the reinforcement.

no, just go for the sunroof if thats what you want.

I can see it possible but im not sure how the glass would lay when closed. I think without the lip it will deff leak. Anyway when I pulled my headliner off all I saw was a smooth roof. Nothing made for a sunroof. Im sure the rails can be welded. My shop guy told me he can do anything I want I just have to tell him what exactly to do. I dont want anything but the stock eclipse sunroof. The wiring and drain hoses should be cake but I wish I had a picture of someones roof to see if theres a lip.
Here is what I am looking to pick up this week

cut the roof off? That guy is a fucking idiot. If satan offers the service then its just a run of the mill operation. They offered to put it on mine back when it was new. I dont think a lip makes a dif otherwise, again, why would satan do it on a normal basis.

You cant use a stock sunroof to put in your car..I install sunroofs at my work, and you just cant do that. The sunroof needs that 1/2" lip that comes down from the roofskin. This is where the rubber seal of the sunroof contacts the actual roof. Its not supposed to be a perfectly watertight seal, because small amounts water is supposed to come in and drain down through the channels in the sunroof frame and into the drain tubes.
Dealers offer to install sunroofs, but they just send them out to shops that do it, like mine, using aftermarket roofs, NOT stock ones. If you want a sunroof, just get an aftermarket one, which is designed to be put in a car without one.

Actually, I know somebody who had the roof skin swapped to go from having a sunroof to not having one, for weight benefits only. It isn't all that difficult...

I am facing the same problems again by getting a mixed opinion. I am willing to go aftermarket if I could get a sliding spoiler. Can someone point me in the right direction ?
