Was browsing through ebay and seen these fiberglass door panels made from Team Prototype. I dont think they make these anymore but they are badass looking. as most of you know, im sweet with fiberglassing, and dont see how they make these...
do you think they made a mold from foam and then just laid mat over it, then more mat and then more matting or what?
i wanna make some, but glassing door panels is going to be tough because you cant really overlay them, beacuse then the door wont shut because they will be thicker.
any advice here?
anyone ever glassed their door panels before?

if you make a female mold of the panels...like make a mold of what you would see...then you could lay the glass in there and it should be fine, as long as you don't make it like 2" thick. So long as you know the fundamental of glass, you should be all set.

ya i was thinking i was just going to lay aluminum foil all around my stock panels, make a mold of those, and then pull that off, and then make another mold from inside that panel i just made. kind of what your saying i think. its going to be tough as fuck though, lol

I have no idea how those were made so I can't give you help there but I know they sold a bunch of those skins when they were making them. If there was a panel that wasn't so radical looking I might consider getting something different. I like how those have holes for speakers but at the top they are too aggressive looking and don't flow the lines of the dash. Good luck with what you try to do, if you get good at making them depending on your design I might be interested in a pair.

I made some molds of the side hatch panels yesterday and I used this green looking stuff. I will find out the name of it. It goes on wet and really thin, but dries as like when you would put Elmers on your hand in school. Anyways, I had no trouble pulling the molds from the plastic. It was awesome!!

Just like frank and the rest said you have to make a female mold of it, but remember be thin. Being a "Glassman" you should get some extra door panels to tweak to make some different set-ups for us .lol

I got those on my eclipse, let me tell you there a bitch to put on, decent fit but you gotta cut for the door handles, vent and any switches, but they look really good, places for gauges on the drider side is good too, good quality too. ill see if the wife can send me some pics so i can post them. other then that its not that hard to duplicate, like said abouve line the inside of the panels with tape/foil, then layer twice, let dry then layer twice on outside once you take it out. shouldnt be too hard is you worked with fiberglass before.

Edit: they can be found at:

the green stuff that was used to make the fiberglass mold. it is called mold release and sells for about ten bucks a bottle. The bottle will last you a long time so you can do quit a few panels. You should be able to buy this at any fiber glass shop. ski and snowboard companies use this mold release because they use aluminum molds and need to keep them clean. mold release cleans up with simple green or any house hold cleaner.

98 GS, it's a work in progress. http://monkeywrench.mesanetworks.net
