Hey, Im going to have my dash, console, headliner, rear sub enclosure, and probably door panels fiberglassed, and custom molded how i want... anyone have ideas of where to place stuff... like where to mold some guage pods, or something... I probably won't use half the ideas, but I'd like to see what ya'll have in mind...

well you could use the search feature. If you are going throw all that work to have it custom done then why would you want to see what others have done??? Make it your own. Your possibilities are absolutly endless if you are glassing the entire interior. If i was doing all that i would mold a gauges into the top of dash in the middle at an angle facing the driver.

Whats wrong with fiberglass for a daily driver?

are you overlooking the obvious?

its going to crack. why do you think people don't mold the outsides of their body that often? it cracks

body kits r made out of fiberglass... you drive them with wind blowing on them, stuff getting on them, and over bumps and all that, but a dash is gonna crak just setting there?

just curious why its such a bad idea

Heat + cold = cracking if it has know where to expand or shrink. I had to mold my rear bumper cuz it was made terrible. It ended up cracking.

unibody...... if our body isn't rigid what makes you thing that a dash doesn't move or twist at all.

personally, I'd fiberglass everything behind the front seats, leave the doors and dash normal..but around the back seats and in the hatch, fiberglass away...

hmm... i really want to fiberglass the dash... how often do you think its will crack? I mean, is it something that will happen once a week, or a freak thing every year or so when you hit just the wrong bump...?

If the job is done right and with the right products it wont crack..for the dash you could just sand it smooth and paint it and prime it..it will look just like fiberglass..

I would recomend a 2 part epoxy resin over a polystyrine resin. It is alot stronger and dosent smell. Also look for a quality mat. Not just the chop glass or cheap cloth, I canot remember the name but it is thick and has several types of glass in it. This would be your best bet.

ya your dash is going to crack soooo much cuz its a daily driver. give me a damn break guys. some of you guys obviously dont know what your talking about. i know im not the britest crayon in the box but shit dood's cmon. i work with fiberglass so much and if its done right its not going to have any problems. i damn fiberglassed my doors like 4-5 months ago and it was a daily driver and i had no problems with them. i am doing my dash and everything right now. before you go telling this dood stuff like that, unless you have experience with it, dont tell him that. i say go for it man. fiberglass shit looks sweet and its not going to crack out and everything liek some of the ppl say it is. just get it done right. take the vinyl off the dash and use some good angel hair or thick chop matt so its nice and thick. just dont use the thick stuff on the edgesl cuz if you do, it wont fit back in fiberglass everything IMO, just do it right!

the doors don't have any torsion on them like the dash does though... the dash spans the whole car and is attached on the left and right so over bumps, hard corners, it is going to be flexing with the body of the car. door's won't because they are isolated from the chassis pretty well, you can fiberglass that no problem. its just the dash has to put up with more abuse then the doors will. you could do it - but I would recommend you make it out of 100% fiberglass instead of bondoing over the top... to see how to make all fiberglass stuff, go to www.jlaudio.com, tutorials, and it should be in there... a lot more work, but it is a much more durable finished product. plus, you can make a bunch of copies and sell them

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but how possible is fiberglassing the headliner? I redid it with cloth but its coming apart and I think the headliner would look good fiberglassed. Am I total spoof or is this at all possible? Thanks.

Listen to eclipse982nrRST he knows more about fiberglass then anyone else here at 2gnt, well at least the ones that actually post! I have also fiberglassed the entire interior of my daily driver and what eclipse982nrRST is true. If you do it right, you won't have any problems.

been down with the flu for the past couple days and i miss all the good topics.
like agression and eclipse have been saying you can glass the dash, and if done right, theres the key, it will be fine. u guys forget that fibreglass is strong and flexes. it has some give in it, so u will be fine. people have had problems with glass cracking but alot of factors are figured into that. like if u mix it too hot (dries too fast) and if it isnt thick enough, so on and so on. i have glassed alot in my car and with the air ride i was concerned until a good friend that is the best installer here in kc told me what to watch for. so i went for it. yeah my car isnt a daily driver anymore but it certainly wont be a trailor queen either. again go for it it is a pain in the ass but well worth it after it is done. as for glassing everything, headliner in particular i am shying away from it, due to the effect that if everything is a hard surface inside the car the music will echo alot, trying to stay away from that but that is just me.

I don't know anything about laying fiberglass but I can attest that if done right it won't crack.

My car fell off the stupid scissor jack and it was wedged between the concrete and my fiberglass skirts. Basically the skirt was holding up the weight of the car and it didn't crack. Scared the crap out of me though.
