#77384, "Project Black interior, what do you think?"

I just finished some parts yesterday and decided to post some pics. So far i've done the dash, a-pillars, door panels, and glovebox. I'm going to finish the rest this weekend and i'll post the finished pics. Anyway, i used SEM satin black vinyl dye. I have actual vents and trim from a factory black interior, and the parts i dyed are almost an exact match. Just want to hear some input.

First is a pic of what it used to look like when it was silver.

Here's now

looks good but im not really a fan of sprayed interiors, i painted my interior black a few years back but ended up swappin in the stock TAN panels again because the sun and temp changes here in MICHIGAN didnt do the paint any good.

btw what paint did you use?

It's not paint, i used SEM vinyl dye. The color is Satin Black. I only put seat covers in because my stock seats are faded and dirty. Eventually i'll be putting in different seats.

I didn't take the dash out, i just masked off the window and took out everything else.

As i stated above, it's a dye, it's pretty expensive (3-4 times the cost of krylon), and it's made for interior applications. I don't use Krylon or Duplicolor, those are what fades and scratches. I had my interior silver with the same dye for 3 years, and it never faded, cracked, scratched, or anything else.

I like the stock gray also, but i regretfully did it silver long ago, and i didn't feel like paying for all new interior pieces.

Thanks for the compliments guys. One of these days maybe i'll swap it out for the stock black. emoji

How is the SEM vinyl dye holding on your plastic door skins? Does it take a few coats for it to really make a nice black finish?
